One of Michael Jackson’s 500 Classic Brews. Carnegie Porter was brewed for the first time in 1836 and tastes the same today as it did then. Carnegie Porter has a creamy head with a scent of coffee. Its sweet and wellrounded flavor is balanced by the bitterness of the hops. Storage helps the flavor mature and enhances its harmony.

2001 Bottle thanks to Heemer77. Dark, black pour at first, but turns somewhat transluscent with a burgundy gleam to the edges. Little, rapidly disipating tan head. Smells of caramel, milk chocolate, light yeast and just a hint of roast. Flavor is rather simple. Too much smooth, slightly boring, milk chocolate flavor. Has its moments of roast and and coffee, but they are still buttressed by the sweetness and only in passing. Medium to medium full body, but loose at the start and finish. Aftertaste has a nice yeast, light vinous notes and chocolate flavor. Still, much lacking in complexity, tastes rather pasteurised.

Delicious porter that, although poured deep brown and headless, still provided a creamy, well bodied mouthfeel. The aroma is full of licorice and coffee atop an underlying scent of sweet malt and chocolate. Very roasted flavors, malt & chocolate. Nice dry, coffee finish.

Bottled 2003 vintage: Dark red/brown coloured.Light brown medium sized head. Buttery, light roasted and coffeish aroma. A little vague for my likings. Chocolate, roast and coffee in the flavour. The roastyness last till the end. The beer is a little dry and insipid. Had it cellered for approx. 1,5 year.

Ive never seen a beer this black. It looks more like im drinking dark molasses. There is little to no head, but this is probably due to the fact the carbonation has fizzled since this is a 1997 vintage (ie 7 years old). The taste has slight maltyness with little hops and barley flavor, yet somehow still has a good flavor. Hints of caramel, prunes, and cashews round out the flavor. I would like to try some younger vintages so see if more carbonation and freshness adds to this delightful brew. Dont know if this 8.8oz bottle was worth 6 bucks but it was a bad 50th beer!

Just poured this one. Black hole colored (no light coming through my desk lamp) with a two finger tan head. 5 for appearance. Aroma reminiscent of Fuller’s London Porter, with big malt, some fruit, chocoff, corn flakes, piney hops, and slight soy sauce. Tastes wonderfully balanced, firm, and complex, with hints of chocolate syrup, capuccino, cherries, corn flakes, molasses. Gets more chocolate syrupy as it warms. Super smooth finish. A delicious beer. Outstanding! If Andrew Carnegie were alive, he’d love this beer that’s named after him. He’d probably even put it in Carnegie Hall next to his art collection.

Bottle labeled Argang 1997. Poured a dark black with almost no head. Aromas of chocolate and licorice . Lighter tastes. Very light coffee on top of the chocolate. Body was a little thin.

Årgång 1997: Pours pure black with just a small halo of foam. Aroma is sweet prune. Flavor is sweet with hints of chocolate, a little smoke, light liquorice with a light coffee and cream finish. Smooth, but light palate. Overall a good porter, but maybe slightly over rated.
