2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
A red copper ale with a thin moka head. A sweetish caramel aroma, lightly funky, not bad. In mouth, an off interpretation of the style, with off notes, sweet unfermented wort, cloying. On tap at Great North Carolina Brewers Fest., August 28 2010.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft pint at the Charlotte Airport. Darkish brown with a nice lasting head. Nose is earthy cocoa and caramel. Flavor is the same with a touch of earthy wood and char. Medium body is very drinkable, sweetish and smooth.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Amber in color with a nice creamy white head. Malty and sticky. Not a big fan of the style but this beer had a nice subtle finish for being so high in ABV. Nice beer guys.

This is, I think, my favorite Cottonwood yet. Had it after a brewery tour. Packed with rich malty flavor. I will be looking for this in bottles.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
8.5 % ABV bottle and served in my Unibroue tulip: Pours a deep coppery brown with a beautiful creamy off-white head that left excellent lace upon the glassware. The aroma has notes of walnut, toffee, slight bakers chocolate, juniper berry, apple, and pear esters. Additionally there is a solid earthiness and wild flower about the nose.
The taste starts with the expected heavy sweet and smoked malt overtone that is nicely supported by some twangy fruit and meaty notes. The finish has a touch of spice and grassy bitterness. The mouth feel hides the alcohol pretty well and is smooth. I like the fact this isn’t heavy and rich on the palate, much more drinkable.
This is one solid brew indeed and I am surprised by the low scores honestly. I am digging this and should another bottle ever make it’s way to me then I would be happy to put it to rest. THX Ken for the bonus bottle! - Where is your rating?

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thought I was cracking the lower ABV Scottish, and turned out to enjoy this pleasant brew. Big, malty, and amber, of course, but what I really like is the interplay between peat and caramel here. A bit more body could help but this is quite nice.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle gave me a hazy amber-brown with small tan head. Nose is sweet caramel and yeast. Well, the taste is alcohol with sweet caramel and a hint of toast. Mouth feel was medium, and there was a sweet-sour after taste, reminds me of a young barley wine. MysterySwap 2.0, thanks to -TURDFERGUSON.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
I thought this was the lower ABV until I saw High Graviy 8.5% on the neck. From BleacherBum, thanks Ryan! Pours a clear brown with a minimal beige head. Aroma of caramel and toffee, brown sugar, moist tobacco, and earthy peat with a bit of smoke. Flavor has the addition of light wet paper, stronger tobacco and peat. Alcohol s apparent, but not at the forefront. Leans a lot more towards sweet, no bitterness at all. Moderate ly overcarbonated with a medium body. This kicked the hell out of Moylans Kilt Lifter--my last beer.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle via trade with TURDFERGUSON - Pours a slightly hazy light brown color with a one finger thick light tan head. Very light spotty lacing. Aroma is esters and a doughy caramel malt. Flavor is sweet esters (apple) and light malt. Medium body. Not your typical Scottish ale. Still, very drinkable. Thanks Sam.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
The color was a watery red/brown. The head was thin, white and disappeared quickly. The aroma was sweet, had hints of caramel, and a musty-type smell. The musty element was very distinguished. The palate was a little lacking, but the finish was nice and warm.
