COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This brilliant red ale, brewed with caramel and pale malts, is a best seller at the Carolina Brewery. Using traditional brewing methods, the ale yeast provides a touch of fruit and works in tandem with the malt to make for a very drinkable ale. Kent Golding hops lend just enough bitterness and aroma to round out the flavor.

On tap at Fat Tony’s. nice version of a red ale if alittle metallic. Not much head but most served were quite cold.

Below average beer. I have had this one from brewery a lot but most recently from twin city taps.

Draft @ the brewpub. Pours a pale amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma. Fruity malty caramel flavor with some weak hoppy hints. Has a fruity malty caramel finish.

Draft at the Froggy Dog in Avon (OBX). Deep copper body with a small off-white head. Chewy malts with a good deal of toastiness; slighly bitter, sour hoppy finish. Solid thirst-quencher after a day of roasting on the beach.

On tap at the brewery. Amber in color with a small whitish head. Herbal hops on the aroma with caramel malt and some cardboard notes. The flavor also has cardboard. Are the beers here somehow getting oxidized? Pretty weak besides that with caramel and mild hop notes. Medium-light body with average carbonation. Really not too enjoyable.

Serving: Draft at a local sandwich shop in Hatteras, N.C.
Aroma: The nose is on the faint side with a bit of earthy malt and caramel.
Appearance: Pours a decent amber color with a very thin, foamy, white head. What head is there fades fairly quickly.
Taste: There is a hint of caramel upfront and a lingering stale bitterness in the back. There isn’t much there outside of that. Rather flat.
Palate: Light to medium body that feels a bit thin with average carbonation and a medium, bitter finish.
Overall: Rather uninspiring. You aren’t missing anything if you skip this one.

On tap at Hatterasman. Malty, light caramel, some earty notes, too. I wasn’t a fan of this one to begin with but it grew on me as it actually paired fairley decent with the burger I was having. Not bad, but nothing memorable.

On tap at the Durham Bulls game (after the server couldn’t get a decent pour out of the Bullpen Pale Ale - all foam). Pours an amber color (surprise, surprise!) with a thin white head. Aroma of malt with some caramel and hints of fruit.. Mostly a sweet malty beer with a slight hop bitternes and a dry finish. Good ballpark beer - sure beats drinking a Coors Light.

I tried this beer on tap at the Jolly Roger restaurant on Ocracoke Island in NC. The beer was a cloudy amber color with a thin and very small white head with slight cling and retention. The beer had a very malty caramel aroma with some citrus hops too. The taste was very sweet and malty, also with caramel. It was a thin beer, fairly wet, and had low carbonation.
