This hearty dark ale with pleasing hints of molasses and chocolate is robust and full bodied. English oats complement the brew by creating a nice silky texture and a creamy, rocky head. This style originally was a blend of three different beers that was called "Entire Butt" – we’re not kidding! Porter became a style of its own during the early 1700’s when it was the favorite drink of the porters in the produce markets of London, England.

On tap at Shiki Sushi in Durham. Pours black with a light tan head. Aroma consists mostly of oatmeal and chocolate, typical malty porter flavors. Taste is similar with oatmeal and roasted malts up front with a slight lingering chocolate flavor on the back end. Palate is about average overall. This is a very solid porter. Not sure what the deal with the low rating is. It’s not amazing but very easy to drink and has solid flavors.

Draft at the Pittsboro NC location. Poured a dark brown, almost black color with a nice tan head. Aromas are roasted malts, some dark bitter chocolate in there. Flavor was creamy malts, roasted chocolate notes. Some dark chocolate. Actually pretty delicious and unexpected. Everyone in my group liked it.

Pint on tap. Opaque chocolate with a lasting thin film of foam. Aroma is coffee and cocoa. Taste is dark chocolate, coffee and caramel. Near-medium body has medium carbonation and a nice balance. Seems closer to stout territory, but tasty nonetheless.
