Bottled version. Oily black color with a very thin tan head. Strong chocolatey nose complimented with hints of caramel. Flavor is full of roasted malts and lots of dark chocolate. Easy to drink but at the same time incredibly full flavored. A fine stab at the style.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 muddyfeet (72) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - FEB 6, 2007
Received a case of this as a brithday gift from my wife. Poured a dark, dark brown. Like melted chocolate. Thick, brown head that dissolved down to a thinner film. Nose is loaded full of toasted malts with some ocao swetness and tartness.
Definitley one of the more drinjable examples of the style. Nothing overpowers and everything is in balance and smooth. Mouthfeel is velevet and silky. The flavor explades after each sip. Flavor is loaded with dark malts, choclate, cocoa, graham crackers and smoked wood. Holds out quite well and the flavor expands as the beer warms.

Bottle, from brewery store. bottled on1/24/07. Good aroma, roasty sweet. Milk chocolate or those malted chocolate balls, powdered cocoa, get a little marshmellow/sugary sweetness, little nutty, some banana as it warmed. Orangy dark brown color, ok head that faded to a ring, ok lacing. Bittersweet flavors, like aroma though a viney bitterness takes over. Little raisin/prune,/date. some grassiness kickin around. Caramel kicks in, Hint of brown sugar. Medium bodied, creamy smooth mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. Don’t get much heat, but I get a hint of it every now and again. Certainly these CBC seasonals are impressive. Went down easy. Like to find on tap.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 NicerInPerson (337) - North of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - FEB 1, 2007
Bottle of CBC’s Groundhog Day Beer - 8.8% ABV. Deep espresso coffee and chocolate with an acrid dark roast quality. Black and translucent with a frothy brown head which coated the glass. Smooth flavor of dark chocolate coupled with coffee and a caramel character and some presence of raisins in the mix. Hops were present as well leading to a grassy impression. Full and smooth on the palate, but not chewy. Only hints of alcohol come in a light warming after consumption.
