3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks to Josh for sharing this. Pours a translucent golden amber with a smaller white bubbly head. Aroma of fresh hop pellets, citrus, pine, lots of caramel malt and some dark fruits. Flavor of pine, grapefruit, lots of lingering hop bitterness, caramel malt, some alcohol and various fruitiness. More of a double IPA than a barleywine...a great beer either way!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Courtesy of a trade with OldGrowth. Thanks! Copper color with a thin head. Fairly strong citrus hop aroma. Not to Hopslam levels, but definitely pronounced. The malt taste is kind of subdued. The hops are not overwhelming, but just edging it enough to be noticed. Think of an APA on steroids, thatís this.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks to Styles for this one. Poured a clear orange-copper color and leaving an "oily film" when swirled. Aroma is sweet and malty with some alcohol and over ripe peaches. Flavor starts sweet and fruity but stops abruptly. Dry bitter finish. Nice warming sensation. Medium to full body.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Courtesy of Styles. Citrus hops dominate the aroma with some hints of caramel. Pours a mostly transparent reddish-orange with some light haze. Insignificant off-white head quickly fades to a ring around the edges of the glass. Sugary sweet caramel up front with lots of sweet citrus as well. Finish comes on quick with lots of grapefruit hoppiness and hints of pine.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Courtesy of Badgerben. This barleywine is loaded with hops. I often donít like my barleywines loaded with hops, but this makes it work very well. Lots of fruity and floral hops in the aroma, so much so I was expecting an IPA. Gold color and minimal cloudiness. Flavor is mostly hops like the aroma but here the alcohol shows just a little bit, but overall it is hidden well and I am surprised to see it is 9.3%. Some malt sweetness, but the hops dominate.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a clean reddish orange with one finger of off white head. Rich nose, candied fruits and some notes of alcohol and citrusy hops. Slight off character. Sharp flavor, citrus rind bitterness and rich bready malt character. Full bodied with a warming finish.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, thanks E for sharing. Fairly clear amber with a minimal white head but good lace. Nose is soapy, some caramel, light pine. Flavor is lightly bready, some caramel, a bit of booze, some citrus bitterness. Drinks a lot lower than its abv. Almost reminds me a english barleywine on cask. Soft carbonation, with a slicky, slightly sticky finish.

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2006 Draught at 42nd St Oyster Bar in Raleigh, NC. Clear orange color with creamy off white head. Big flowery hop aroma that comes out again in the flavor. Accompanied by cotton candy, alcohol, citrus, and caramel flavors. Very well done.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottled on 11/21/06 and drunk on 6/28/07
Small amount of rapidly dissipating, medium-beige head tops this copper-auburn tinted brown barleywine. Clear, lightly effervescent, with no lacing left.
Smells hoppy and of plentiful caramel malt. Bready, with dry toffee and light butter (not diacetyl) signifying probably some munich malt. A strong ester profile of raspberries and strawberries slowly melds in to heady alcohol fumes on the finish, which is quite dry in contrast to the malty sweet beginning. Medium strength of aroma, no flaws.
About as run-of-the-mill American barleywine as I can think of, with the usual huge caramel-toffee maltiness, scratchy breadiness and obnoxious bittering hop profile. Maybe some date and nut notes in there too. I donít really understand what about these things I ever enjoyed, as I certainly canít find anything now. Medium amounts of lively carbonation, with a malty-sweet texture and strong alcohol warmth on the finish. No flaws. Thanks for the bottle, Tom!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught at the Saucer for Cellarbration of Raleigh Beer Week. I think this was vintage 2011. Poured a hazy dark amber color with very little head on it. Nose was surprisingly hoppy to me, with some floral notes coming through along with some sweetness. Taste was only slightly sweet and felt very smooth and well-balanced to me. Very pleasant barley wine.
