Clear amber body and white head. Sweet yeast, caramel and apple aroma. Fruity malty flavor with some biscuit. Enjoyable, but an average beer.

Mmmm, a little disapointment from thinking it’s an abby beer. Poured with a small off white head and no lace. Aroma is of rich caramel, malt, and toffee. Nice. Flavor isn’t quite as good, but not bad. Body is ok and so is carbonation. Finish is a simple sweet medium malt. Nothing special at all. Had so many better of this style and supposed provenance.

Sample at Dogbrick’s Eurostash II tasting on 12/12/09. Pours clear gold with a medium off-white head. Sweet malt nose with a bit of hop. Sweet malt flavor with a bit of banana-ish yeast.

Dogbrick (4837) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - DEC 24, 2009
Sample at the Eurostash II tasting on 12/12/09: Canned version (as "1133 Biere d’Abbaye). The beer is a clear reddish-gold color with a medium thin off-white head that diminishes quickly. Mild malt and yeast aromas. Light body with flavors of sweet malt, yeast and fruit. The finish is mildly spiced with a malt and yeast aftertaste. Barely average overall.

heavy (1490) - Split, CROATIA - DEC 14, 2009
1/12 0.5 l can from big Carrefour in Cannes. It poured deep golden to amber body with medium sized head that was going down slowly. Yeasty belgian ale aroma, some nice chewing gum and banana fruitiness. Flavor was a bit worse, but still pleasant biscuit and fruity malty with nice belgian yeast rounding its flavor along with some herbal spices. Medium bodied with low carbonation and longer, sweetish biscuit malt finish. Typical for a Belgian ale, this is really fine supermarket beer.

0.5l can purchased possibly at a large Carrefour in Cannes with heavy, with whom I’ve shared it too.
Poured a darker golden body with a medium sized white head that stuck for awhile. Sweetish lactic nose, slightly spicy, chalky, with notes of bubblegum. Light chalky fruity taste, bubblegum again possibly, malty. Ending with a light bitter hoppy note. As typical a Belgian golden ale as they get. Not all that bad really.

21st February 2008. Odd nose on this - toffee but ’off’. Watery beer with a caramelly malt.

Pours an extremely clear pale copper. Nose is strong on peppercorns and biscuit. Taste is fairly sweet, lots of dark candi sugar, lacks the yeast esters similar in this style. Poor representation of style, but still a tasty drink.
