Dark amber with bubbly beige head; aroma is rich and complex with roasty chocolatey and notes of hops on the fringes; Flava is equally complex with deep roasted malt with chocolate notes; feels medium slightly creamy and equally fizzy; MFN finishes long and roasty with hops coming out long after the swallow

gimmicky but i loved it. caramel and vanilla with a hint of chewy chocolate. married in such genuine fashion to a scratchy rye ipa. best brown ale i ever had. citrus, nice heavy enough rye malt "just getting along" it is not smooth. light brown with orange hue supremely satisfying and not to be missed!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Intriguing beer. Very hard to put a label on it. It has a very nice chocolate and coffee aroma that is surprising considering the beer is gold in color with a small white head. The flavor is lighter than the aroma with a nice bitterness, just a hint of the chocolate and coffee. Finish is dry and tasty.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours brown somewhat translucent with a smaller grey head. Aroma brings sweet crusty malts and herbal grassiness from the hops. Flavor brings sweet toasty almonds with a smooth light bitter hop note.

Draft at the source. Murky golden color, tan head. Aroma of fresh hay, light cocoa. Taste is cocoa powder, brown bread, nutella. Looks are deceiving, this is nice, flavorful hoppy brown.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Draught at Roberta’s. Hoppy and caramel. Was dark, so didn’t see a brown, but felt like some dark fruit to it. Decent.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: FEB 17, 2013 Draft from Whole Foods and on tap at Pony Bar. Foamy, dark amber pour. It is hard to categorize this stuff - my tasting notes were totally different from the two times I had it. Once it tasted like a really good, classic-tasting lager that conjured up images of barley fields under blue skies. The next time I thought it was like a dry saison with rosemary, tarragon, and thyme. Maybe there was some difference from batch to batch. The herbal flavors are provided by Aramis hops. Good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Location: Draft at Brass Rail, 1/15/13
Aroma: Lots going on, with roast, yeast, some spice, chocolate, and caramel, among other things
Appearance: Pours a unclear brown color with a frothy, lasting, beige head and heavy lace
Flavor: The taste is much like the nose, with a lot going on between the malts, yeast, and spice
Palate: This one has a medium-plus body, it drinks fairly creamily, with a tingly finish
I thought this one was pretty solid for sure. It had a bunch of different things happening, and all the components may not work perfectly together, but they work together pretty well. Interesting beer.
