The backyard of our brewery has a mulberry tree that drops its fruit in the first days of summer. We moved into our building during early summer 2011, tracking a bright purple path through our new home with every laden step. It was then we decided: if mulberry was going to get that deep into the brewery, it probably should get into a beer as well. Stealing a process from Berliners, we let the lactics in a wheated mash sour up to a green apple/lemon level, accentuating the bright side of the mulberry profile. The barley of the malt bill is light continental two row, its kernelís nuttiness playing to the softer, fruity component of the berriesí flavor, keeping the beer from flying too close to bright. Meant for quaffingg when there is no reason to avoid direct sunlight on balmy Summer days, drink Monkey Chased The Weasel because there is more sun than moon at the top of Summer.

On tap at Whole Foods. Pours a light peach color with white head. Pear, green apple, mulberries. Very tart and lightly sweet. Light, crisp body. The mulberry flavor takes away from an otherwise excellent Berliner Weisse.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2014 On tap at the brewery. Pours pink grapefruit. Aroma and taste of lemon grapefruit and sour/tart. Mouthfeel starts out very tart and bitter but calms down as you drink more. I really like this beer or maybe I like it more because my wife loves it! Itís a balanced berliner Weiss. Very well done Carton!!

I hated this. It is one of the few beers I have ever just not drunk. It had an aroma of dish soap and the taste followed suit, to the degree that I thought the glass was maybe not completely rinsed. The bar (Devils Den in Philly) sent me a small sample in a different glass. No difference. I donít know how to explain it, I was very excited to try my first beer from this brewery and it turned out to be an expensive drain pour. (DD did not replace it or take it off my bill, not that they have to, but a small strike there). I enjoy funk, I enjoy sour, Also, we pick fresh mulberries nearly every summer, I love mulberries. Iíve rated nearly 1000 beers. This was terrible.

Keg at the Pony Bar UES - NYC. Pours lightly hazed melon-yellow with a slight, creamy white head. Nice tangy cotrus nose, punches of acidic lemon. Light sweet flavor with crisp, bracing sour lemon bite, tabg. Light bodied with fast, prickly carbonation. Very crisp andd clean to finish with a strog but quick sour bite, and a more dynamic tangy fruit character, with more lemon but also peach and mango. Very tasty and refreshing.

a lactic note, a paste-like note. i think that the mulberries are coming off as funky fruit, almost dank. canít tell about the color because the bar is too dark. By candle light, hazy pale golden straw. Lactic sourness and cereal flavor, tart with a hard to describe somewhat phenolic flavor. Fuzzy finish lingers in aftertaste.
