COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The backyard of our brewery has a mulberry tree that drops its fruit in the first days of summer. We moved into our building during early summer 2011, tracking a bright purple path through our new home with every laden step. It was then we decided: if mulberry was going to get that deep into the brewery, it probably should get into a beer as well. Stealing a process from Berliners, we let the lactics in a wheated mash sour up to a green apple/lemon level, accentuating the bright side of the mulberry profile. The barley of the malt bill is light continental two row, its kernel’s nuttiness playing to the softer, fruity component of the berries’ flavor, keeping the beer from flying too close to bright. Meant for quaffingg when there is no reason to avoid direct sunlight on balmy Summer days, drink Monkey Chased The Weasel because there is more sun than moon at the top of Summer.

Pours out a sunset pink orange with only the slightest hint of a white head. Sour with a little fruit and a little vinegar in the aroma. Tangy and sour are pretty much the only flavors I get here, pleasant but not very complex. If I try really hard I get a little bit of mulberry in the aftertaste. Effervescent and bubbly with a light watery mouthfeel, although the finish is quite dry. Decent -not great - Berliner.

Can: Thanks, Jason. Cloudy, bright yellow & burnt golden body with a small white head that fizzles quickly to a very thin ring around the glass. Aroma has notes of dusty cellar, must, mixed berry, faint wheat, mild lemon, & a small touch of yogurty lacto. Taste kicks things up a notch... Nice & tart; dry lemon skin, sour berry, acetic acid, soured wheat, & a finish with sme faint must & stale popcorn kernel. Dry, tart, & super refreshing with a lingering lemon & lactic sourness that hands with the palate for a while. Eminently crushable.

Can shared at the Swamp Head Batch 600 release. Pours a purplish pink color with a creamy white head on top. Aroma of mulberries, sour vinegar, wheaty malts, and berliner like yeastiness. Flavor follows with big notes of mulberries--wow they go really well in this style--wheat malts, yeasty tart berliner notes, some lemon peel, and some floral notes. Really light bodied with high carbonation. While I’m not a fan of the style generally, this was very nice. I would have it again for sure.

Big can in a tulip. Pours pinkish amber with an off-white head. Aroma of light funkiness, some berries, light tartness, some pale and caramel malts, and some light fruits. Flavor the same with a nice blend. Average texture. A really cool beer.

On tap at Barcade. Milky yellow pour with a fleeting white head. Bouquet of urine stained pre-school class room. The bitter sting of turpentine and rancid inedible fruit. Below average body and mouthfeel. It’s almost like I just licked a couch on the side of the Jersey Turnpike.
