A Classic Jersey-ism is “regular coffee.” Here when you order a “regular coffee” at any place you trust to make a pork roll and cheese you get a paper cup of coffee with “milk and 2 sugars” rather than a “black coffee that hasn’t had the caffeine removed.” Acidic bitter coffee flattened by milk and sweetened; the perfect foil for the salty unctuous savor of breakfast on a roll. For our homage to Jersey’s breakfast beverage, we teamed up with our neighbors at Fair Mountain Coffee Roasters looking for an elevated version of classic crappy coffee. We chose Mexican Chiapas for its bitterness akin to artichoke, roasting it a little darker than usual, along with Ethiopian Sidamo for its pleasant lemon-like acidity, which we pushed up through fermentation. We added this coffee blend to a high gravity golden cream ale, contributing our “milk and 2 sugars.” Drink Regular Coffee because running over a black beer with coffee is no way to get to work.

12 ounce can. Pours a mostly clear copper orange color with a small white head. A light nose mostly of coffee and sweet malts. The flavor is big sugary coffee, a massive sweet malty base, the coffee is sugary milky and just sweet overall. Like the other version of this I had, the base is just too sweet and not flavorful enough to deal with the coffee. It’s OK, but very sweet and a lot to drink.

On tap for Tørst 3rd anniversary. Pours a partly cloudy orangey yellow. White head. Big coffee aromas. Some caramel. Taste is pretty sweet. No bitter black coffee. Pretty good beer but a bit too syrupy and sweet for me.

Pours a light clear gold - a lot lighter than expected. A decent coffee, grain and vanilla aroma. A strong coffee flavor with dark drunks, caramel, sweet malts, and sugar. A dry but sweet malt lingering aftertaste.

Can, thanks to Toastedpuppy. Clear dark orange with off-white foamy large head, malt and faint coffee beans aroma, medium carbonation, slightly sweet creamy taste, with coffee flavor and alcohol undertones, creamy body, medium malty finish. Coffee flavor was not too pronounced, strong alcohol content was not masked too well.

Hazy orange color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of coffee, cream, caramel, vanilla, and alcohol. Taste of coffee, lactose, sweeter caramel, and alcohol in the finish.

Canned 1/14/16 and drunk 2/5/16.
Thanks Bobby and James for sharing! Been hearin’ a lot about Carton lately so it was good to finally try it.
Clear, dark beige-golden body has a thin, rapidly recedeing light beige head.
Smells like dunkin donuts coffee with cream and sugar in it and then also a bunch of booze. Which I guess is what it’s supposed to smell like?
Vapid, rather loose carbonation and a watery feel to the beer overall are the first things I notice. Also a bunch of sweet cream-caramel and alcohol. Oh and the coffee is just sort of there, but not particularly interesting or done with much finesse (though to be fair it’s also not overdone). Sweet, borderline cloying, pretty poor texture-wise and WTF is up with the abv??? Gratuitous much?? Probably not going to be drinking too much more Carton.....

Sweet cheap old coffee flavor on the aroma. Appearance is a cloudy gold with a small head. Flavor is super sweet with low quality coffee flavor. Mouthfeel is medium with medium low carbonation. Overall, I wouldn't buy this beer again. High hype, low quality. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 ounce can. Amber orange color topped by a small frothy beige head. Sweet toasted malted aroma with coffee notes. Flavor is more sweet malt with caramel, coffee and vanilla notes. First sip really tastes like a regular coffee with cream and sugar. Some resiny hop notes, but the big alcohol warmth comes in to take control. Coffee flavor and vanilla stay with this brew all the way through. Quite different, but worth seeking out.
