COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This NW style sour blond ale was barrel aged for 28 months before spending an additional two months on 300+ pounds of Black Cap raspberries: think Nouveau Boujoulais with blackberries. Vinous then sweet aromas of tart blackberries are the first to be noticed. Sharp, acidic notes of tart berries and leather on the palate lead to a sharp, dark berry presence and a finish with a prolonged dry fruit note. This limited draft-only offering is a blender favorite.

[2/25/15] Draught at Cascade Brewing Barrel House in Portland. Nice dark red color. Lovely aroma with lots of raspberries. Sour flavor full of raspberries, oak notes and a bit of lemon. Medium-bodied. Delicious stuff.

Bottle from Gourmet Haus Staudt. Deep red color with a pinkish-white head, really nice-looking. Big raspberry and blackberry aroma with a touch of funk. Flavor has deep raspberry, ripe and underripe, with mild vinous notes. Medium-bodied and somewhat fizzy on the palate. Really nice!

Tasted on 2/1/15 from a corked and caged 750mL bottle during our Super Bowl tasting, purchased at Ales Unlimited. Pours hazy deep garnet with a thin pink head that leaves thin lace. The nose is tart, fresh dark raspberry, touch of raspberry syrup, and light vanilla oak. The flavor is nicely tart raspberry and raspberry syrup, same vanilla, and just a touch of earthy funk. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long tart raspberry and light vanilla finish.

Beautiful Ruby color, the white head is fused with with the same color. Nice funk, oak and juicy raspberry nose with a slight mineral component. Nice medium body texture, a little over the top in regards to the acidity, this may turn off some. Taste follows the nose, juicy raspberry, sour fruit and oak. Not the best cascade offering but it is solid and I would drink it again

Corked bottle pour split. Pours cherry red with a slightly sour berry fruit aroma. Short lived fizzy head. Flavor is very much as expected, though this is a good thing. Fresh red raspberries and blackberry. Very sour up front but finishes more sweet. Another great sour from these guys. Great stuff.

750 ml bottle, huge thanks to Nitze for sharing this bottle! Beautiful rich opaque cloudy pour, minimal light roseate head. Nose is gorgeous, with fresh, ripe, tart raspberry seed and flesh. Flavor brings more oak, leather, and lactic sour character, though the mid-palate is disappointingly thin. Still, quite tasty.

Bottle... Pours clear and purple with crimson highlights and a fleeting, pink head. The aroma is reminiscent of raspberry jam. Medium-bodied with an abrasive mouthfeel and stinging carbonation. The flavor is not nearly as fruity as the nose and the acidity is fairly low. Finishes raspy and bone-dry. This seems over-attenuated. Whats up with cascade lately? Seems like their barrel-aged beers have become hit and miss. Bottle courtesy of ctipping!

On tap at the barrel house. A: Big pink head, purple-red color, some lacing. N: Big raspberry, some acetone, grapefruit and lemon peel, not overly complex. T: Sour, slightly sweet. M: Light body, fizzy carbonation, alcohol is restrained. O: The raspberry here is nice, but its about the only redeeming feature on this one - which is likely because I love raspberry beers. Otherwise, its a basic Cascade beer. Not even up to Block 15 Framboise Black standards.
