COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This NW style sour blond ale was barrel aged for 28 months before spending an additional two months on 300+ pounds of Black Cap raspberries: think Nouveau Boujoulais with blackberries. Vinous then sweet aromas of tart blackberries are the first to be noticed. Sharp, acidic notes of tart berries and leather on the palate lead to a sharp, dark berry presence and a finish with a prolonged dry fruit note. This limited draft-only offering is a blender favorite.

Draft at Bigwood 12/6/12 [8 of 11]. From notes (which are getting spottier and sloppier as the evening goes on). Aroma: Sweet raspberry. Sexy. Appearance: Deep purple (seriously, purple). Creamy-purple head, big bubbles clinging to the glass. Taste: Light, airy, blueberry in finish. Hint of smoke? Not nearly as much sour as I was expecting (but definitely enough to remind me it’s a sour beer and not some magical wine/cocktail/beer hybrid). Palate: medium/light body, moderately live carbonation. Overall: Another solid offering from Cascade. If I lived in Portland I would drink their beers constantly.

Pours a hazy purple from the bomber with bubbly pink white head that leaves minimal lace. Aroma of strong lactic acidity and tart fruitiness. Taste is more toward the fruit, big acidity, hint of vanilla barrel wood. Super sour, booze is well hidden, really good.

750 ml corked and caged bottle from my friend. The beer is a deep red color with a pink head that sticks with the beer. The aroma has funky, earthy raspberry notes. The notes are a bit confusing to me, though, because when I smell it I think they remind me of both unripe raspberries, as well as raspberries that have been baked into a pie or simmered in their own juices. The taste is nice as well, with strong fruity sourness throughout. Very well done raspberry sour. Thick mouthfeel, medium carbonation. All around a great beer.

Bottle, shared at game night. Deep ruby hue with a fine pink head. Jammy raspberry, sweet, with mild-moderate acetic sourness, woody/oaky undertones. Delicious.

UPDATED: JUL 22, 2016 750 ml caged and corked bottle poured into a Spiegelau tulip. 2015 Project. Dark reddish with some super quick fading light pink head. Aromas of berries, cherries, subtle funk, a little vinegar, slight vanilla. Tastes of berries, cherries, vinegar, tart acidic notes, light funk, subtle oak. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Good though it’s a one and done for me at $29 a bottle.

Bottle. Wine Rack, Leeds. Hazy, dark ruby red. Film of pink. Nose has stewed raspberry. Lemon patisserie. Soft oak. Some savoury, balsamic notes. Taste has unripe raspberry tartness. Some oaky, woody sweetness. Sharp mouthfeel. Pretty clean, but it’s far too fizzy. Tangy, bittersweet, fruity sour finish. Decent.

Appearance: hazy deep purple, brief fizzy head diminishing immediately to nothing, no lacing. (3/5) Aroma: intense raspberry, oak, vinegar. (8/10) Taste: high tart, low sweet, low bitter. (8/10) Medium-light body, lively sustained carbonation, dry tart finish. (4/5) Wow… this stuff is like the Platonic ideal of raspberry, unencumbered by sweetness or other such frippery. Intensely, almost brutally tart, with a bone dry finish. I would’ve said it’s right up there with the true Belgian lambics, if there were some more funk. There is a little, but it’s faint and pretty much entirely in the finish, after the dry and tart finish fades. Damn pricey, but damn nice. (16/20)

Bottle share at CBC Islington as ’Cascade Blackcap Raspberry’. Many thanks to Paul for this sour scoop. Very dark purple, pinky head leaves light lacing. Aroma is raspberry and blackberry up front. Body is light with tingly carbonation, a little foamy. Taste is smooth raspberry, some sour lemon and Tangfastics, light acidity. Does what it says on the tin and pretty tasty.
