COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This NW style sour blond ale was barrel aged for 28 months before spending an additional two months on 300+ pounds of Black Cap raspberries: think Nouveau Boujoulais with blackberries. Vinous then sweet aromas of tart blackberries are the first to be noticed. Sharp, acidic notes of tart berries and leather on the palate lead to a sharp, dark berry presence and a finish with a prolonged dry fruit note. This limited draft-only offering is a blender favorite.

Draft at Bigwood 12/6/12 [8 of 11]. From notes (which are getting spottier and sloppier as the evening goes on). Aroma: Sweet raspberry. Sexy. Appearance: Deep purple (seriously, purple). Creamy-purple head, big bubbles clinging to the glass. Taste: Light, airy, blueberry in finish. Hint of smoke? Not nearly as much sour as I was expecting (but definitely enough to remind me it’s a sour beer and not some magical wine/cocktail/beer hybrid). Palate: medium/light body, moderately live carbonation. Overall: Another solid offering from Cascade. If I lived in Portland I would drink their beers constantly.

My Bottom Line:
The authentic juiciness of this raspberry ale is met by refreshing acidity in this very efficient creation.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the blood red with pink hues.
-Acidity levels are rather high, but this remains very engaging.
-The quiet carbonation helps showcase the fruit even more.
-This is one Cascade brew which is actually worth the high asking price.

Bottle.

Pours red, not much foam. Rasberry is not too strong, has fresh feel to it. Taste is tart, rasberry strong and also full of acid, not really sweet, more in the dry end of things. Overall, comparatively simple but nice refreshing finish for a really sour evening.

Bottle shared by deyholla. Pours a dark red. No head. Sour raspberry nose. Acidic, not overly so. Really delicious. Thanks Derek.

Bottle. Pours a near clear deep ruby red with visible carbonation and minimal head. Aroma has a beautiful rich tart raspberry with a bit of barrel supporting. Flavor has a bit of an acid bite with a rich raspberry note and a bit of barrel underlying.

Bottle. Huge raspberry nose, yogurt and vanilla, and a little spice. Lovely crimson color, deep and beautiful, with lace. Medium tartness, nice sweetness in there as well. Not overwhelmingly sour. Great.

This beer pours a deep reddish-burgundy color with a medium thin pinkish-white head that dissipates gradually to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of raspberry, oak and yeast. Medium body with a tart berry character and flavors of vinous oak, yeast and malt. The finish is moderately tart with a raspberry aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Dark ruby body with a half-inch of lavender head. Loads of fruit in the aroma. Grape, blackberry, raspberry. Fruit punch. Jammy. Tangy and tart finish. Tasty. Another solid beer from Cascade.

Purple red pour with a fizzy pink head. Aroma is tart raspberry, wood, and some earthy funk. Taste is tart raspberry, oak, vitamin c pills, earthy, some red wine, and lightly funky. Light and very dry. Nice puckering tartness.

Tap at the brewery. Perhaps my favorite of the 16 beers I tried there. Pour was blackberry colored. Flavor was strong blackberry with some sour notes. Probably the most fruit I have ever tasted in a beer. Excellent beer.
