COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This NW style sour ale blends wheat & blond ales that were oak aged in barrels for 6 mths, then additionally aged 4 mths on fresh blueberries. Huge herbal notes of dense blueberries in the nose give way to hints of oak & a dusty floral note. Rich earthy notes of dark fruit on the palate lead to a tart finish that dries out to a base note of blueberry skins.

Bottle sample at a sour tasting at Noam’s office. Thanks DSG. Hazy red and headless. Berry, a little medicinal aroma. Tarty with wet hay undertones. Smooth, full-bodied, tarty and quite long finish.

750 mL bottle from Pinocchio’s Beer Garden To Go in Media, PA served in a stem glass. Pours clear purple-amber with a moderate purplish head that remains and leaves a small amount of fine lace. The nose has huge notes of blueberry, slightly tart apple and cider, along with yeast, oak and pale malts and a touch of flowers. The flavour is moderately tart with cidery notes and prominent blueberries. Oak comes through, along with wheat and hints of coriander and spice. The finish is long and mildly tart with blueberry skins. On the palate it is medium in body with a dry texture and a hint of astringency. Overall this is a very nice sour blueberry wheat ale. 2014-05-02

Corked and caged bottle from Gator Beverage. Pours a deep ruby purple color with a small pinkish white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of sour vinegar, sour cherry, a little vanilla oak, and some light berry notes. Flavor is oaky vanilla sour vinegar with just a light highlight of blueberry, and a hint of the vomity acidic acetone flavor I get from any beer with blueberries in it. Luckily it isn’t super of off-putting in this beer as it is hidden by the sour vinegar and oaky vanilla flavors. Light ot medium bodied with lots of spritzy carbonation. Interesting beer that leaves a good bit to be desired. This is my third Cascade brew and I continue to be underwhelmed. Hopefully the Kriek in the fridge changes my mind. At $30 a bottle I expect a good bit more, but I guess the souring and oak come through nicely here. As I go on, this gets more and more like drinking rubbing alcohol. Not sure if this is a bad bottle or what, but not good. This is getting worse and worse. Like drinking straight paint thinner. Just terrible.
