COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This NW style sour ale blends wheat & blond ales that were oak aged in barrels for 6 mths, then additionally aged 4 mths on fresh blueberries. Huge herbal notes of dense blueberries in the nose give way to hints of oak & a dusty floral note. Rich earthy notes of dark fruit on the palate lead to a tart finish that dries out to a base note of blueberry skins.

Batch 2012 Aroma is fairly sweet with some blueberries and light funk. There is a touch of a plastic phenolic character present. The blueberry has a bit of an artificial character. Low barrel character with a bit of alcohol spice. Pours a fairly clear red color with hint of a darker purple hue. Thin light pink head that recedes fairly quickly. Flavor starts fairly sweet with a jammy berry character. That recedes as the moderately strong acidity kicks in. The acidity brings in a moderate phenolic character. Light bitterness with a lingering acidity. The finish is acidic with a light fruitiness and funk. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Light acidic astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall a nice beer but the blueberries taste a bit artificial with the plastic phenolic notes. The sweetness is a bit strong too and it could use a more complex funk character.

750mL bottle shared at a tasting. Of course, the beer pours beautifully with a thick dark blue color and a fizzy purple head. The beer is generally a very natural blueberry flavor and aroma. In the taste its a very jammy blueberry. Very bright flavor surrounded by acetic touches and sourness. The acetic is balanced by a strong carbonation that tickles the cheeks. Really enjoyed this beer, havenít had a Cascade in a while and they seem to be doing a very good job.

Draft at Sour Fest 2013. Deep magenta colored pour with a bubbly pink head. Oak, acetic acid, blueberry and blackberry and earthy funk in the aroma. Strong, tart, acidic, puckering sour flavor with blueberries and oak. Medium bodied and sour finish. Not too shabby.

Syran är hög. Syltig i doft. Påminner inte helt långsökt om Ekströms osötade blåbärssoppa

Pours a plum purple with a pink-ish head. Aroma is tart blueberries, lots of oak. Tart berries, some funk, oak in the body. Lightly sour finish. I donít usually care for blueberry beers, this is an exception.

750ml bottle shared by jsprime. pours purple with a mauve head that doesnt last. tons of blueberry, wood, overall tartness but not a ton of acid. really comes off as a well done fruit beer rather then a full on sour. pretty good but a bit over rated IMO.

Tap at Cascade Barrel House PDX, @ 7.66% ABV, 22/05/13. Clear cherry red with a thin white head. Nose is tarte berry fruits, wood notes, light balsams. Taste comprises sour berry fruit, light sugars, funky, oaky notes, tarte blueberry. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, sour tarte finish, lightly puckering. Decent but blueberry is never my favourite fruit in a beer, whatever the style.

Bottle @ Kraddelís TdG 2013 tasting, Antwerpen. So this is the U.S. answer to Cantillon? Letís see. Pours a deep hazy purple body with a small light pink head. Aroma is tart blueberry tones, horseblanket, hints of lemon and citric zest notes. Taste is blueberries, smokey meat tones, hints of tart horsey barnyard notes and dark berries. Medium to thin body, high carbonation. A nice sour; not quite par with good olí Cantillon but a pretty good attempt nevertheless.

Sample at the Barrel House. Cloudy ruby-brown pour with a medium thin fizzy pinkish-white head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of berries and yeast. Medium body with a midly funky undertone and flavors of blueberries, earthy yeast and citrus. The finish is fruity with a mildly tart blueberry aftertaste. Solid all around.

Nice sour. Somewhat sweet. Good blueberry base. Recommended! Not a big sour fan, but I like this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
