COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This NW style sour ale blends wheat & blond ales that were oak aged in barrels for 6 mths, then additionally aged 4 mths on fresh blueberries. Huge herbal notes of dense blueberries in the nose give way to hints of oak & a dusty floral note. Rich earthy notes of dark fruit on the palate lead to a tart finish that dries out to a base note of blueberry skins.

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours deep blue/purple with a pinkish head. Aroma of sourness, blueberry, light oak, and pale malts. Flavor a cool blend of it all. Average texture. Another cool Cascade fruit sour.

750ml C&C bottle. Ugly pour, light opaque maroon body with a smaller fizzy off white head. Aroma was blueberry muffin, cake batter, sour lemons, some odd Body Works blueberry hand sanitizer. Decent body, stronger bubbly carbonation, medium mouthfeel and a sour finish. Flavor is more sour than the aroma lets on. Blueberry, lemon, sourness, dry straw. Solid.

750mL bottle generously shared by PaulUnwin. Cheers, Paul! Pours a hazy reddish color with a white head. Nose is blueberry flesh, slight vinegar, berry skins, a bit of band aid, and some nice sour qualities. Flavor is similar with blueberry flesh, slight dark fruit, small vinegar, some earthy/ band aid flavor, and berry skins with some fruit on the finish. Interesting beer.

Bottle split with Tom and Jessie. Pours a purple haze with thin white head. Aromas and taste are very perfumey, and dark grape forward. Lots of barrel yeast with a really sour finish. As it warmed I got more tart blueberry, raspberry, and other sugary fruitts. Pretty tasty.

Bottle @ Kraddel’s TdG 2013 tasting, Antwerpen. So this is the U.S. answer to Cantillon? Let’s see. Pours a deep hazy purple body with a small light pink head. Aroma is tart blueberry tones, horseblanket, hints of lemon and citric zest notes. Taste is blueberries, smokey meat tones, hints of tart horsey barnyard notes and dark berries. Medium to thin body, high carbonation. A nice sour; not quite par with good ol’ Cantillon but a pretty good attempt nevertheless.

Huge thanks to barleywinefiend for snagging this growler and getting it to drabmuh and I, thus setting up the Cascade sour tasting. Served in a Cascade Barrel House goblet. Pours a beautiful deep blue with some hints of violet. Nice white head with a bit of faded blue mixed in. Fantastic coloring. The nose carries a bit of acidity paired with really bright, fresh notes of blueberry and accompanying skin. Very light earthiness there as well. The blueberry aspect continues through the flavor. There’s so much depth just from the blueberries. Such a great berry to use with a sour and, in my opinion, far superior to the typical choice of raspberry. I was ecstatic to hear that Cascade was going to be releasing bottles of this. Behind the blueberry, there is moderate acidity. The body is crisp with clean acidity and a dry, sour finish. Good carbonation. This is an impressive beer and one that I hope becomes a regular offering in Cascade’s fruited sour rotation.

Bottle. Red with pink froth. Big sour nose with blueberry tartness. Starts out surprisingly sweet but quickly switches to sour. Very nice. I find the aftertaste is so strong with the flavours very present that additional sip adds a reduced amount to the senses. Sweetness sets it apart from other sours.

Bottle (750 ml). Shared by David, thanks! Hazy purple with a small pink head that quickly dissipates and leave no lacing. Aroma is of intense blueberry jam, oak, acetic notes and herbal/floral presence. Taste is sligthtly sweet and moderately to heavily sour with blueberry jam again, lactic and acetic presence, wood and slight herbal/floral notes (mostly covered by the sourness). Medium body. Leaves the mouth dry. Not easy on the stomach, but really fun to try but all those blueberries! I liked it!
