COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This NW style sour ale blends wheat & blond ales that were oak aged in barrels for 6 mths, then additionally aged 4 mths on fresh blueberries. Huge herbal notes of dense blueberries in the nose give way to hints of oak & a dusty floral note. Rich earthy notes of dark fruit on the palate lead to a tart finish that dries out to a base note of blueberry skins.

Bottle: † Pours violet, definite pinkish hue, moderate to thin sudsy white head, spotty lacing. † Aroma of unripened Blueberries, well at least Blueberry bushes. † Its like unsweetened immature Blueberries. † Tart on the tongue up front, backside is dry with a soft unripened Blueberry sweetness. † Very clean this is. † Comes across as very dry and very tart. † Nothing off about this one. † Not as big and robust as some of their other offerings, but it is certainly tart, fruity, and mouth puckering. † Strong woodiness on the nose as well as on the tongue. † I keep thinking to myself how clean this one is. † The more I drink, the more I realize how dry this one is. † My mouth is very much puckering after a few sips. † While the Blueberry aspect is there, its not as strong as I would have liked. † Either way, this is a very clean and well put together PNW sour ale. † Comes across as very clean and very easy to drink. † Easily one of the better Blueberry beers I have had, ever!

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, big thanks to Caleb for this pour! 2011 bottle. Dark reddish blue with thin bluish red head, aroma brought notes of big blueberry pie, nice funk, cheese, hints of lactic lemon and slight biscuit malt notes. Taste is nice blueberry, sweet vanilla and pie like notes but sours fairly well with a slight funkiness to it, finishing fairly sweet but with a nice dry and lactic note.

750, corked and baled. Thanks, J&A! Pours a dark rubied amber with a dense and fizzy pink head that falls quickly away. Funky barnyard on the nose with a tinge of tart berry. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Oak and balsamic on the mid-palate with a dry, oaky, slightly minerally finish. Pretty good.

Sampled on tap at Cascade Brewpub, pours a mostly clear red with a small beige head. Aroma of pure sour blueberries, sangria and subtle oak barrels. Flavour of sour blueberry puree, with the same notes of sangria, some oak barrels and a tart blueberry finish. Very nicely done.

Bottle. Pours almost purple, or maybe Iím just imagining that. Medium acidity, some solid blueberry sweetness, just a hint of funk, light candy sweetness, and a little tartness in the finish. Solid.

DLD 2012: Pinkish hue with a fizzy head. The profile was tart blueberries and white grapes, oak, wheat, biscuit, mineral, and a hint of tannins. The mouth feel was quite refreshing, sprite and lively with just the right amount of oak dryness. I really enjoyed this even with the high level of acidity. Nice!

In short: A lightly funky, not-so-sour and very fruity ale with plenty of berries. Excellent
How: Bottle shared with friends, post Tap-NY 2012 Hotel party. Unfortunately a Danish-style sample on this one. Tick
The look: Cloudy dark red body topped by a small pink-ish head
In long: Nose is very fruity (all kinds of berries, not just blueberries) with a bit of funk. Taste is very fruity, sharp and clean, only a light sourness and mild lactic acidity. Oak remains discreet. This is as much a fruit beer (and an excellent one at that) as it is a Sour/Wild ale. Maybe because it was still young and the funk will transform the beer. I will eventually drink a full bottle of this and re-evaluate what it has evolved, but a fresh sample proved to be a superb mildly funky fruit ale. Anyway, it was well worth crushing thousands of blueberries to make this great beer, just like it was well worth drowning hundreds of babies to make that great Nirvana Nevermind cover.

Had both the older releases and the new Shrieking Violet on tap. Both were good. The aroma is sweet berries alongside vinous, woody notes. The flavor is borderline very sour at times with sawdust and light sour blueberry. Very odd but in a good way. Not a fruit beer per se, more oak and tannins. Quite nice.

Draft at City Beer, SF, CA. Purple rAspberry pour. Fruity acidic and tart aroma. Blueberry raspberry driven tartness, highly tart and acidic. Another winner from cascade
