COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This NW style sour ale blends wheat & blond ales that were oak aged in barrels for 6 mths, then additionally aged 4 mths on fresh blueberries. Huge herbal notes of dense blueberries in the nose give way to hints of oak & a dusty floral note. Rich earthy notes of dark fruit on the palate lead to a tart finish that dries out to a base note of blueberry skins.

From the April 2013 3R6P beer tasting. +++ Sampled from a 750 ml corked brown bottle this beer poured a very dark plum-blood red color with a medium sized foamy pink head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was funky, tart, sour, vague berries, pepper and Sweettart candies. the flavor was dry, tart and sour with funk, chalk and strong tart berries. Very long dry, tart and sour berry and funk finish. Medium body. Interesting.

@ Avery Sourfest 2012. Clear bright red, as of it’s a classic Kriek. Aroma is funky wood and pale grains with a touch of fresh blueberries. Taste is nice and clean, medium sour and not too fruity. Notes of blueberry but also funky wood yeast. Big but restrained and fruity but not too much. Nice sweet/ sour balance.

Courtesey of Travlr. 2012 Vintage. 75 cl. bottle sampled. Pours a dark fox raspberry colour, quickly fading pinkish head. Tart, lightly lactic blueberries, lightly lactic, tart, fruity, strong spices, almost Christmas wine touch,… Lightly lactic tart blueberries, spices, funky, light sour, finish is bitter, blueberry top, light wine, tart, sour tartness, light yeast,… Fluffy carbonation. Tartness states in the back of your mouth. Not bad at all.

This one poured a semi hazy dark blue color with a small pinkish head. Aroma was of blueberry skins, lemons, wood, and hay. Flvor was pretty sour, funk blueberry, and cheesy lemons.

750ml shared by Madvike. Purple red, deep. Oily, thin head. Juicy, fruity. Some of that test tube US action, but juicy and nice, real fruity depth. Captures a mellow enjoyability not found in most US sours.

Huge thanks to barleywinefiend for snagging this growler and getting it to drabmuh and I, thus setting up the Cascade sour tasting. Served in a Cascade Barrel House goblet. Pours a beautiful deep blue with some hints of violet. Nice white head with a bit of faded blue mixed in. Fantastic coloring. The nose carries a bit of acidity paired with really bright, fresh notes of blueberry and accompanying skin. Very light earthiness there as well. The blueberry aspect continues through the flavor. There’s so much depth just from the blueberries. Such a great berry to use with a sour and, in my opinion, far superior to the typical choice of raspberry. I was ecstatic to hear that Cascade was going to be releasing bottles of this. Behind the blueberry, there is moderate acidity. The body is crisp with clean acidity and a dry, sour finish. Good carbonation. This is an impressive beer and one that I hope becomes a regular offering in Cascade’s fruited sour rotation.

Bottle. Red with pink froth. Big sour nose with blueberry tartness. Starts out surprisingly sweet but quickly switches to sour. Very nice. I find the aftertaste is so strong with the flavours very present that additional sip adds a reduced amount to the senses. Sweetness sets it apart from other sours.

Sample at Stone sour ale fest 2012. Bubbly clear reddish purple pour. Very nice blueberry aroma, mmm fresh blueberry. Flavor is tart lemon, blueberry, grain, and moderate sourness. Nice and refreshing, and not too over the top compared to other cascade sours. It would be great on hot summer day.

Pours mahogany blue into a snifter. White micro head with excellent retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Blueberry and oak aromas. Sharp with sweet blueberry and tart lactic notes. Dry lasting blueberry powder finish.

Sampled at Where the Wild Beers Are, 6/7/14
This is a pinkish-purple colored beer. It has a fruity/berry aroma. Slightly herbal. Some woody notes. Another very tasty fruit sour from Cascade. These guys do fruit sours and they do them well.
