22-MAR-2012, bottle @Papsø. Unclear brown with lasting beige head. Sour nose with roast. Taste is sour porter with roast and Flemmish-like vinegar notes. Black IPA meets sour? Strange beast, but really interesting.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of Masterski. Pours an opaque dark brown with a beige head. Sweet Bourbon aroma blending in amazingly well with the Flemish sour accents. Medium body, sweet woody cherry notes, tartness galore but everything is blending in wonderfully with the Bourbon. rum, brown sugars, dark fruit - you name it. Ends tart, never bitter. Amazingly complex. 220312

Bottle spit amongst friends. Getting this bottle opened was an absolute nightmare. The cork broke twice forcing me to poke a hole through it and pour right through it. Lucky though none of the cork got mixed in with the beer, which amazed me. The flavor and aroma were both sour, but not over the top mixed with that funk I love. It was a decent sour but nothing crazy.

A - Pours a dark red-brown with a thin finger of chocolate colored head. Fades fairly slow leaving behind lots of lace. S - Aroma is a mix of Bourbon, sour cherries, roasted malts, vanilla, chocolate, and oak. T - Starts off with deep roasted and slightly burnt malts with some chocolate and vanilla and some sourness. Through the middle, the cherry comes through a bit stronger and the Bourbon starts to come through with some oak. The finish is a mix of Bourbon, vanilla, oak, deep roasted malts, and sourness with a bit of booze. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with a nice warming finish. D - Very dirnkable. The balance is outstanding with so many flavors going on, especially the sourness and the Bourbon flavors.

Draft @ Cascade. As a disclaimer the beer was actually listed as pre-bourbonic, but the server indicated the beer was only a couple weeks away from being final. Pours a super cloudy brown with a red hue. Smell is tart cherries and mild bourbon. Taste is mild but warming bourbon with rich dark fruits, tobacco with a medium tartness. This is really reminiscent of a port. You can tell the 3 years it took to make. Rich complex. Really nice.

I got this bottle about a year ago, I think. Dark brown pour that looks pitch black in the glass with a big fizzy tan head. A lasting foam settles on top for good that sheds a lot of lacing, although none of it sticking. The aroma at first is mostly sour wild berries and wet wood. As it opens up there’s some of the Porter qualities showing; chocolate, dark plum, with bourbon (not overly potent with everything else going on) rounding out the scent. The flavors of this seem a bit messy. Mostly the same things going on picked up from the aroma but it’s a tug-o-war between the Sour Ale acidic, funky, yeast and wild berries and the barrel-aged Porter in this of bourbon, chocolate, roast, and assorted spices. A lot going on for sure with some of it nice and some it awkward. As this warms it gets slightly better and I end up tasting the vanilla bean too. The finish is alcoholic, and harsh in a weird way, with lingering tangy chocolaty cherries, tart plum, and damp old wood. I didn’t dislike this beer but I’d be lying if I said it was as good as expected. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured by DrBill at his tasting, poured dark reddish brown with off white head, aroma brought notes of some dark fruit, red grapes, hints of chocolate, coffee, with some nice lactic lemon tartness in there as well, hints of funky horseblanket as well. Taste is a nice combination of grape and dark fruit that has some slight lactic notes mixing with the bourbon, vanilla and oak, which helped dry out the brew with a nice tart, sweet, and dry finish.
