Cascade Bourbonic Plague. 750ml bottle. Thanks to seam for sharing... Pours a cola brown with a thin to medium off-white head... Aroma of soft bourbon with major hints of acetone and not too much of itís porter base, perhaps the slightest note of roast... Flavors are of much of the same with a light mild porter chocolate aspect to it only towards the end. Carbonation is on the lively side but still enjoyable. Slightly acidic. 8/4/7/3/14

Tap today at sour fest. This was my first pick of the day and I was damn excited to try it. Ron and the boys at Cascade, know their sours! Poured reddish brownish blackish murky, with a tan head. Nose is sweet, rich, tart and funky. Sweet, tart funky and nicely bourboned.

Bottle shared at Maltzillaís All American Weekend. Pours cloudy brown color with tan head. Tons of aromas; toasted malts, bourbon, vanilla, cinnamon, wood, wine. Similar falvors with some sourness. Weird, but interesting.

750ml bottle from cavemanlawyer, thanks James! 2009 Vintage. Pours a black body with an inch thick, fizzy and foamy, dark brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is tart and acidic with a sharper roast, dry oak, red wine, tannins, and a nice bourbon that opens up more as this warms. A bit funky with some chocolate, vinegar, hints of vanilla, and plums. Flavor is similar. Vinous and sour up front with a good amount of sharper roasts, dry oak, grape skins, tannins, vinegar, and a nice bourbon presence. Some chocolate and plums towards the end with hints of vanilla and spice before this finishes dry, sour, acidic, roasty, and woody with a light chocolate and vanilla note and pleasant bourbon aspect. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a lively carbonation. Overall, a really well done beer. The intense sourness works well with the dry wood and roasts while the bourbon adds a pleasant complexity. Nice one.

Sampled at DLD 2014. It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of tart dark fruit and some funk. The taste was of chocolate, tart dark fruit notes, some roasted malts and vanilla. There was also some bourbon and oak in the backend. Very tasty.

2009 Bottle. Thank for sharing, Sam! A sweet, toasty clean acid flavor rises first, but then the bourbon comes in quickly. Loads and load of vanilla, almost a bit too much, but rich and full of pipe tobacco. The middle part of the palate gets too spicy, thereís too much going on, but the bourbon and brown malts really clean out the finish. This worked at the point in the tasting we had it, because of the bold bourbon quality, but it felt akimbo. I donít think plain clean lactic acid goes well with porters if the acidity is too high and the bourbon was completely overbearing on the whole beer. There are some fun sugars in it, but the overall presentation is too much of being hit over the head with a hammer.

Bottle 2011 Project: Thanks, Doug! Deep, deep mahogany & ruby-tinted body, topped with a slightly creamy, khaki layer of foam on top. Aroma is full of bourbon & barrel vanillin. Tannic, spicy oak with underlying notes of black cherry juice, tangy dark currants, & dates. A hint of roast with apparent bacteria induced sourness. Huge wave of dates, currants, & generic dark fruit on the palate; very deep, sweet, & cascaded with a large whiskey overlay. Big barrel presence; spicy oak, tannins, bourbon, & a large vanilla aspect. Warm, making my stomach fuzzy. Light black cherry skin tartness mid-palate; even though this is a sour ale, the sourness is tertiary to the sweetness & the booze. Canít blame them at 12% ABV. I donít typically love boozy "sour/wild" ales but this was pretty well done. Not my favorite Cascade, but an interesting "slow supper sour" hybrid.

Bottle shared by TheAlum at Muckfest III...thanks Adam! - Pours ruby brown with a thin bubbly tan head. Nose is sweet bourbon with some cinammon that comes through the light tartness. Maltier than I expected, until I read the label and realized this was a sour porter. Taste is real sweet, but not cloying, with vanilla and brown sugar, a cherry sourness, and real mild tartness. Smooth and well-carbonated, this beer was pretty restrained for what it is--impressive.

Bottle shared by Thorpe429. Thanks Mike! A: Dark brown hue, with an eighth inch of head that leaves some good lacing on the glass. S: Sourness, cherries, booze / alcohol, oak, funk. T: Ooo...this is different...I like it. A healthy level of complexity exists here in this glass. Intriguing and challenging, with flavors of oak, wine, cherries, bourbon, and funkiness. This daring beer walks a fine line between triumph and failure. Iím a fan. M: Pretty smooth feel, notwithstanding the massively complex pungent blitzkrieg of funky, fruity booze. D: While I do prefer Vlad the Imp Aler, I really enjoyed this brew. I love sours, even / especially ones that challenge the palate. This was a really fun experience. Iíd happily drink this again.
