Amazing sour Porter with wood and fruit flavors. Similar to Russian River Consecration which is also amazing.

UPDATED: JUN 19, 2011 750ml bottle on 6/19/11. pours a light black with a small off white head which settles into a dark black with a foamy lacing. wine barrel nose with big lactic acid and dark malts with dark fruits (cherry mostly) coming through... at GABF, the bourbon notes were much stronger than from this bottle. medium to full body with nice lacto up front over dark fruits (cherry, dates, raisins) and deep dark malts with coffee and chocolate. the level of sourness is perfect throughout - not over the top and very well attuned. tart cherry finish with oak, vanilla and a pleasing lactic sourness which turns the head a bit in the right way. this beer brings the wonderful dark roasted beer together with souring bacteria and barrels which impart layers of flavor from front to back.

sample from the pitcher @ GABF on 9/18/10. This deserves the Gold medal it received at the 2009 GABF. From the first whiff across the nose, I knew this was special. Dark brown pour / red highlights with a 1/4" off white head. Sour - lactic nose with bourbon and oak - amazing! Medium to thick body with layers of dark fruit, barrel notes, bourbon, grapes and big malts. big vinous finish... loose the barrels a bit on the finish. outstanding stuff!!! one of my favorites at GABF this year.

Bottle from da, shared by wes. Dark brown pour with chestnut brown head. Aroma is vinegar, funk, and some spice. Taste is some nice sourness with some oak and a touch of bourbon and some nutiness. Lots going on in this brew. Amazing.

(Critique chaotique du extreme beer fest 2013): Un nez de cerise, une bouche de fruits confits, peu de tannins, arrière-goût de chocolat, bourbon. Superbe assemblage.

Bottle: Wow, I don’t know where to start. In my notes, I have a ton of stuff written down and then it’s all scratched out and just says "Everything about this is good." Fantastic nose of balanced tart fruit, loads of oak and funky cobbwebb notes along with a mild bourbon and light roast note. Fantastic balanced flavor and complex finish. I have more of these in the cellar and they will be shared generously.

So there you are, tubby. Look like a bucket of lard on a bad day. You baby gorilla. Why don’t you work in a zoo, and stop bothering people? Got a call yesterday from Baskin Robbins. They said that they’re down to only five flavors. You’re swelling up as I talk to you.

Thanks to HonusWagner for sharing this one at IBrew2or3’s going away. Pours cola brown with a tan head. Nose is chocolate, spice, sour cherries, lactic sourness, vinegar, bourbon, and a nice tart dark bite. Flavor is similar. This beer has amazing complexity. As HonusWagner said, there are several things going on here, and each aspect of this beer is clearly defined. It has the chocolate elements of a porter, it has the bourbon of a barrel-aged beer, and it has the sour/ lactic quality of a tart sour. There is so much complexity stemming from the bending of all of these styles into one. The result is an enjoyable, smooth mouthfeel and a veritable plethora of flavors that must be sipped and pondered.

pours deep mahogany with a beige head. Aroma is red wine, oak, vanilla, sweet dark fruit. Taste is similar with nice balance between sweet dark fruit/red wine with tart acidity there as well, spicy and dry in the finish, nice oak/vanilla/bourbon in the background which melds perfectly. Alcohol present but not abrasive, soft mouthfeel, very easy drinking. A great beer.

Curtis, the brewer, was kind enough to allow me to sampled this on tap from the keg room at the brewery. This beer is completely legit. Pours an opaque, deep brown with a very frothy off white head. The nose is really good, sour mash, lactic acid, big vanilla, whiskey, brown sugar, licorice, chocolate, dried fruits. Flavor was just as good, starts with a lactic tartness which is rounded out by a mellow sweetness, oak, vanilla beans, light Belgian chocolate, some light spice. Full bodied, roasty, tart finish. So happy I had a chance to try this, it’s very exceptional.
