4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
2011 Project, bought from the brewery online for $21
It pours a murky rusty colour, started off with over a finger head of foam but that quickly dissipated. Very little lacing left behind.
You can certainly smell the sour cherries and the oak barrel. Some slight note of vanilla there. My nose is happy.
Tart cherries up front in the taste, oak flavours not so much. Alcohol extremely well hidden when it comes to what sits and swirls in my mouth, some definite warming during and after the swallow. Sour, yeah, but not overly so. Very slight hint of a vinegar sourness so I don’t *think* that heartburn will be an issue.
Very tasty from the get go; I opened it at near room temp to get all of the flavours rather than opening after pulling from the fridge.
A delightfully delicious Wild Ale that I wish had a bit less alcohol to make it even more drinkable; as is, it’s still and an easy drop to tip back.
I’m very impressed with what Cascade has made here. They sure do know their s*it.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured into a tulip. 2011 vintage.
3.75 A: Pours a deep plum color. Some yeasties hanging out at the bottom of the glass. One finger of frothy beige head. Retention is about average and a half finger of lacing is left.
3.75 S: Well, this definitely has some cherries in it. Big, bold, beautiful cherries. Tart and delicious. I’m not detecting much bourbon at this point, but the barrel itself is quite present lending a soft tannic woodiness. Not much funk as this more showcases tartness and sour punches. Nice acetic acidity. Toastiness, mixed berries, sour plum, and a touch of lemon.
3.75 T: This pretty much mirrors the nose. Big, bold cherry. Moderate sour tanginess with plenty of tartness. Lemon, plum, black and blueberries. Toastiness, touch of neutral maltiness. Bit of earthy funk.
3.75 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation with a light spritziness. Super smooth with a tart finish.
4.00 D: Very good beer. Didn’t get much bourbon, but that’s probably a good thing since it didn’t need any other flavors.

At Rich’s Massive Cellar Emptying Tasting. 2012 Sang Noir 9.8% a brown with a dash of red. A rich plum, figs & prunes aroma. Tart, cork, light fruitiness and a raspy dry carbonation. A bit oaky maple woodsy barrel charcter. Alright.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 2011 project thanks to cocoapuph. Pours clear ruby hazel, small tan head, decent lacing. Initial aroma is quite acetic, mellowing somewhat to reveal cherries, roasted malts, lemon, oak tannins, nail polish remover, and sherry. Flavor is medium tart, tartness really comes on late, puckering after a bit. Somewhat roasty, cherry notes, vinous and oaky, some nail polish remover but less than in the nose. Medium body, lingering tartness. Not bad, not great either.

Dégustée chez Alexandre Mathieu. Cheers buddy!
