COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This live barrel of NW style sour red ale was initially aged for six months in French oak wine barrels, then additionally aged on elderberries. Sharp wine, dark raisins, red grapes and cereal notes greet you on the nose. Tart dark fruit and grapes on the palate lead to a sparkling crisp dry finish with hints of fresh elderberries and grape skins.

Stone Sour Fest. Pours a brown to slightly purple with little white head. Aroma is very fruity berry. Taste is sour berry with it being hard to define the elderberry but it is there. Very nice sour balance and something I’d love to get a bigger glass of.

Pours like a syrah, aroma of raisins, berries... Flavor is akin to a syrah with notes of grapes, berries and maybe some tannins, with a tart finish... Nice

On tap at Sourfest. Pours with a hazy/murky deep brown hued body with a small, off-white head. Aromas are mildly tart, concord grapes, elderberry, medium malt, light oak. Flavors are tart and clean, dry and acidic with only a mild fruit and some tannin. Medium carbonation and dry. A little bit lifeless compared to some of the other Cascade sours.

A hazed brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a smooth lactic malt with light raspberry notes, Brett, nice. In mouth, a nice lactic malt with light sour cherries, raspy mouthfeel, nice and smooth. On tap at Portland brewery, Oct. 7 2012.

On tap at Hop and Vine in Portland, OR. Pours a deeper purple-amber colored body with a finger-width, creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is fruity elderberries with a nice sourness and a light malt sweetness. Hints of acidity, funk, vinous fruits, earth, raisins, and wood. Flavor is somewhat tart elderberries with a light caramel and raisin sweetness, a light funk, some wood, grapes, and a light acidity. Finishes dry, lightly tart with some yogurt, and sweet with a good amount of fruit. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-light body and a soft, somewhat lively, moderate carbonation. Overall, a solid beer. I liked the aroma a bit more, but this was fruity, sour, sweet, funky, and woody with a nice balance between everything. Good one.

Dark amber beer. The nose is very fruity and fresh. A touch of barrel character adds light vanilla notes and a bit of vineous complexity. Soft tannins in here as well that keep it interesting. Tart and lactic keep the beer very bright and fruity. A bit of lingering earthiness. Damn delicious stuff.

On tap @ the brewpub in Portland. Dark purplish colour (we were outside and it was dark, so not sure of the exact colour descriptors here!). Aroma is sour, but not as bracingly sour as the apricot I just had, with berry fruit notes among the funk. Lovely tart berries and funk and yoghurty acid, light vanilla, light wood. More quenching than puckering. I really enjoyed this one. For me it possessed a balance that lent to crazy drinkability.

Taster @ Barrel House. Pours like dark honey. Aroma is a more subdued copy of the flavor. Sweet, dark fruits, getting sweeter with elderberry on the finish. Quick zippy mouthfeel. Pretty good here.

(Draught) Pours a hazy amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of fish, elderberry, grapes, and caramel. Flavor of caramel, earth, elderberry, raisins, and vinous with a dry oak finish.
