This live barrel of NW style sour red ale was initially aged for six months in French oak wine barrels, then additionally aged on elderberries. Sharp wine, dark raisins, red grapes and cereal notes greet you on the nose. Tart dark fruit and grapes on the palate lead to a sparkling crisp dry finish with hints of fresh elderberries and grape skins.

This beer has a story. I purchased this in Florida for a trade. I packed this up and had it ready to be taken as a checked bag on my flight to ND. Unable to check my 12 bottle Styrofoam shipper and had to leave it with my folks. Out of the goodness of their heart decided to ship it to me. The box was subjected to a lot of sub-freezing weather and this bottle froze and leaked. I received the box this afternoon, and after sitting out in my baasement, it has thawed and so the natural thing to do is drink it, right? Well, drink it I did. Poured into a large teku -- Brownish/Red almost wine-like appearance when pouring, quickly dissipating bubbly white head. Aroma is exciting: tart, sour, and cherry. Flavor starts with pucker on the front of the tongue that meanders to tart elderberry fruit in the middle to back of the tongue and you are left with a slight tingling in the cheeks.

Draft at the barrel house. 2013 edition. Pours a brownish red color with no head. Sweet blueberry and strawberry aroma. Super sour flavor, with a complimenting sweet blueberry flavor. Finishes s we etc and sour, and the bl7eberry, or I guess maybe elderberry, lingers forever. Great sour.

From notes. Tasted on 6/26/13 on draft at the brewpub with Chris after Oregon Pinot Camp. Pours hazy, deep mahogany with an average tan head that leaves messy lace. The nose is malty raisin, fig, and caramel with a nice vinous sourness. The flavor is very sour with the sweeter raisin, fig, and caramel up front, moving to the vinous oak and some nice bitterness. The body is full with lively carbonation and a long sour, dried fruit, and malty finish.

750ml, caged and corked bottle that I paid way too much $ for (close to $40 USD). 2013 Project. Poured a brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Berries, grapes, wood, vinous, dark fruits, and a bit acidic.

From the December 2014 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a black color with orange highlights and a large foamy brown head that lingered and left minimal lacing. The aroma was tart and sour with vague berries and must. The flavor wa start and sour with vague berries, vinegar and must. Long finish. Medium body. Solid.

750 ml bottle to snifter (2011 Project, shared by GAbell). Looks decent; a translucent dark plum with light beige head. Smells mildly sweet, fruity, and funky with some tartness as well. Tastes like it smells with a medium-bodied mouthfeel. A touch of raisin as well. Enjoyable.

Brilliant lactic sour aroma with dark fruit and oaky in there as well. Flavor is dark fruit, oaky, woody, and quite sour. Maybe 7 or 8 of 10 sour. Another great by cascade. Almost has some whiskey like flavors at the end, even though I know it isn't aged in whiskey barrels. Very dark, almost opaque color. Very full flavored. Really awesome. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Torst, Brooklyn. Pours a deep purple amber pour with an off white head that leaves plenty of lace. Aromas of earthy tones, raisins, berries, chocolate and oak. Very complex nose. Taste is upfront sweet berries - blueberries, raisins and grapes with a dark/sweet malt backing. Oak and balsamic mainly coming through. Fucking complex. fucking awesome beer
