COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This live barrel of NW style sour red ale was initially aged for six months in French oak wine barrels, then additionally aged on elderberries. Sharp wine, dark raisins, red grapes and cereal notes greet you on the nose. Tart dark fruit and grapes on the palate lead to a sparkling crisp dry finish with hints of fresh elderberries and grape skins.

This poured a dark red almost blue color with a pinkish head. Aroma was of dark berries, light Brett. Flavor was blackberrish, light lemony character, but not.over the top sourness like some of them.

Pours a finger of head on a dark purple colored body. The aroma is sour and fruity. The taste has lots of fruit, sour throughout with a tart finish. Really great. The texture is crisp and fizzy. Quite enjoyable.

Bottle at Monks. 2013 project. Dark hazy brown pour with some lasting tan foam. Very tannic sour brown ale with lots of dark berry flavors. Elderberries. Currents. Blackberries. Concord grapes. Dried blueberries. Some dark caramel truffle malt in the background but otherwise very dark fruit forward. Hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. Not sweet at all. Full-flavored. Wonderful stuff!

This beer has a story. I purchased this in Florida for a trade. I packed this up and had it ready to be taken as a checked bag on my flight to ND. Unable to check my 12 bottle Styrofoam shipper and had to leave it with my folks. Out of the goodness of their heart decided to ship it to me. The box was subjected to a lot of sub-freezing weather and this bottle froze and leaked. I received the box this afternoon, and after sitting out in my baasement, it has thawed and so the natural thing to do is drink it, right? Well, drink it I did. Poured into a large teku -- Brownish/Red almost wine-like appearance when pouring, quickly dissipating bubbly white head. Aroma is exciting: tart, sour, and cherry. Flavor starts with pucker on the front of the tongue that meanders to tart elderberry fruit in the middle to back of the tongue and you are left with a slight tingling in the cheeks.
