COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This live barrel of NW style sour red ale was initially aged for six months in French oak wine barrels, then additionally aged on elderberries. Sharp wine, dark raisins, red grapes and cereal notes greet you on the nose. Tart dark fruit and grapes on the palate lead to a sparkling crisp dry finish with hints of fresh elderberries and grape skins.

Brilliant lactic sour aroma with dark fruit and oaky in there as well. Flavor is dark fruit, oaky, woody, and quite sour. Maybe 7 or 8 of 10 sour. Another great by cascade. Almost has some whiskey like flavors at the end, even though I know it isn't aged in whiskey barrels. Very dark, almost opaque color. Very full flavored. Really awesome. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Torst, Brooklyn. Pours a deep purple amber pour with an off white head that leaves plenty of lace. Aromas of earthy tones, raisins, berries, chocolate and oak. Very complex nose. Taste is upfront sweet berries - blueberries, raisins and grapes with a dark/sweet malt backing. Oak and balsamic mainly coming through. Fucking complex. fucking awesome beer

Pours a dark burnt wood brown with tawny amber edges. TWo fingers of crackling tan had. Vinous nose with some elderberry jam and nice round fruit/berry notes. Charred wood and oaky/vanilla notes in the flavor with some fruit. Light bodied and acidic.

Got this bottle from wine 101. Poor is a dark brown with very thin beige head. Almost looks like a brown ale. Little to no lace. Smell of raisins prunes and faint smells of grass/hay. Up front the Taste is much the same along with some black cherry . A great deal of funk to this beer! With each sip your tastebuds will be overloaded with flavors and sourness. The finish on this one is very woody. Overall very delicious.

Bottle @ What the Funk, October 2014, Denver. Pours a fairly clear, dark orangish brown appearance with a fizzy off white head. Kind of acetic. Some leather, wood, and tannins to go with blackberry pie. Also, some caramel and toasted malt. Pretty good.

750 ml bottle via trade. Pours a deep but mostly clear brownish-mahogany with an amber hue and finger of off-white head that leaves plenty of lace streaking all the way down. The aroma is earthier than expected, with plenty of oak, vinous notes, berries, raisins, caramel, chocolate, dark malts, and a splash of balsamic. The flavor brings the same fruits - berries, grapes, raisins - with dark and sweet malts, earth, oak, and balsamic. Medium-bodied, with medium carbonation and an earthy, funky, sour mouthfeel. Another good sour from these guys.

Dark purple pour. Aroma of berries and grapes. Acidic feel. Bitter sweet grape skin, berries, moderate level of sourness. Would be quite good on its own, about average for these guys."

Bottle... Pours murky and brown with no head. The aroma is a purée of caramel, fruity acidity, blueberries (maybe elderberries - I wouldn’t know. Who kicks back and eats a bowlful of elderberries?), oak and a pinch of cocoa. Medium-bodied with a watery mouthfeel and zippy carbonation. The flavor is sour, fruity, and malty with lightly-bitter, woody tannins and subtle funkiness. Lengthy, sour finish. Bottle provided by landhoney!
