COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This NW style sour ale is a strong blond ale aged in chardonnay barrels for up to 12 months, then aged with dried white figs and lemon peel or up to 12 more months. Aromas of sweet figs, golden raisins, and citrus zest are the first to be noticed. Hints of white wine grapes, lemon peel, and sweet figs roll across the palate, leading to a crisp lemon tartness in the finish that leaves a lingering sweetness on the tongue.

1/24/15. Sour Beer Day hanging out with Mrs. Owl between two trips! 750mL bottle from Chanís, Shalimar. Hazy orange pour with a very short lived off-white head, basically no lacing. Acidity, I guess. Huge sour aroma, American alright, lots of sour without much funk, mild fruitiness. Very sour taste, but I dig that, and so does Mrs. Owl. Smarties/sweet tarts, definitely American, mild vinous aspects, fruity, rich. Bold, not overly complex. Probably the best part is that itís a quaffable sour with high boost. Iíd go to town on Cascade beers if they werenít all $35+ in the stores. Eff that.

From notes. Tasted in December 2012 from a corked and caged 750mL bottle. Pours clear bright orange with a thin white head that leaves a thin collar of lace. The nose is super funky sour lemon peel with some buttery chardonnay and light malt. The flavor is has an added white fig component, but is super sour with a bit of creamy chardonnay otherwise. The body is medium and tannic with light carbonation and a long sour and very funky finish.

Bottle from Tipples, corked and caged, 2013 Project poured on 1/10/15. Price was a bit steep at $37.99 so better be good. Pours hazy golden orange colored with lots of bubbles lacing the glass and just a white tiny thin ring of head on top. Aroma of barnyard funk, vinegar, sweet fruits, lots of oak, hint of vanilla and a bit of a menthol note that I donít like. Flavor is nice. Sweet and sour up front, notes of honey, vinegar, lots of sweet fruit, tart lacto, dry oak on the finish, bit of lemony tartness. Donít get a lot of dog flavor here but what sweet fruit notes are present (and there are a lot) are very nice. Spritzy carbonation, dry finish, medium light body (very light for the high ABV). Overall a nice sour from a brewery that is mostly hit or miss for me.

Bottle shared by Jeff at the Dolphins tailgate. Small snifters. Pours a yellowish orange with some small head that lasted 60 seconds. Aroma is serious fruits like orange, lemon, and mango. In addition the tartness comes through with some acetic acid. You also get the chardonnay in the nose. The taste is fruity with the citrus (orange and lemon zest) mostly, white grapes, chardonnay barrel, and acetic acid. Not overly sour or acidic. Moderate light body, slight dry finish. Bold, complex flavors.

Bottled. Pours a golden yellow orange color with a effervescent head. Aroma is sour, funk, lots of orange and citrus, and white grapes. Flavor is funk, sour and citrus. Not a ton of fig. But very good. Iím not a huge sour fan but this is a very good example.

Draft pour at the barrel house. Pours a shiny golden color with a lot of head and lace. Sour white grape aroma. Flavor is initially sour with some apple, grape, and some plum. A bit of a white wine feel as well, coming at no suprise. Long, white grape sour finish. Awesome.

750 c&c from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours translucent gold with a slight white head that left rather rapidly. Aroma is sour, and seems lemony. Med + body. Flavor is oaky, citrus, sour and has some semi-sweet fruit that could be fig. Make this tart/sour. Doesnít get to sweet/tart. :) Quite a tasty sour beer. Finishes oaky/sour, maybe with a hint of grape.

Keg at the Barrel House, PDX, 2013 Vintage 11/11/14. Clear golden with moderate off white spotting and edgework. Nose is musty, straw, citric peel, funk, apple core, pissy tones. Taste comprises tangy citric rind, acidic notes, light vinegar strokes, tarte green berry, funk, sour berry wash, musty wood. Medium bodied, fine carboantion, semi drying close with fruit tang and a semi puckering conclusion. Decent sour.
