3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: NOV 13, 2012 Pours light brown dark orange with a very thin white head. Nose is lemon peel, coriander, vinegar, rose pedals and apples. Taste is complex. A wave of fluctuating bitter and sweet with an ever present sour through it all. Mouthfeel is soft and sticky, a bit like syrup addition, body is heavy and the finish is long. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Iíve been holding this bottle for a few weeks, waiting for the right day...the right time. My head had to be right and I had to be in the mood, if you know what I mean, to really be in a spot to wrap myself around this. I love the experience of the lightning strike, the breaking open of the dam on the reservoir of moisture that floods your mouth when your tongue is expecting to be lightly abused. I opened the bottle to this...but Iíve been experiencing it all day in my mind. I do love my imagination.
The liquid pours easily into the glass, a dark honey-lemon flow with little foam to keep the aromas hidden. The release of the brew sets off a whirlwind of sensations in my mouth, a torrent of anticipation and I inhale the salty sour of white wine and tart lemons. The first sip has a bite of fruity funk to back up the aromas in this hazy brew and weíre off. Sour, jaw-breaking perfection drenched in dark raisins and lemon, the light body carrying the flavor with a buoyancy Iíve missed by drinking so many darker brews recently. My mouth dances with joy and waters to almost a dilution of the beer swirling over my tongue, and it is an excellent climax to the days gustable fantasies.
As the beer warms, the experience for me changes very little; the brewer does ask that I drink this at 40 degrees, and I know itís warmer than that at this point. My handy-dandy laser gun tells me itís now at 48. Sorry, Cascade. Itís only a bit more salty, a touch more bitter than sour...still an excellent taste and palate. The carbonation allows the flavors to wash through with such an intensity that in one sip Iím sure I wonít escape this experience for hours, but only moments later Iím clamoring for more.
This beautiful sour ale from Cascade is one of those craft beers that almost becomes a need and desire is just a silly word for those who wish they really knew....

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours oddly like a pale ale - thin white frothy head atop a clear, non carbonated golden Amber. Nose of lovely tart and palate is extremely sour with cherry, tonic and vinegar. Extremely dry. Purchased at Metro Liquors University Heights for around $37.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Appearance is a modest off-white head that settled to an island/ring after a bit, some lace, and a hazy orange amber color. Aroma is yeast, fruit, spice, malt, slight barnyard. Body is just exactly right and hides the alcohol well. Finish is easy and alcohol is hidden. Fairly drinkable for this style of brew.

bottle, from Bottle Revolution RDU, I think, maybe Traingle Wine, they both had it. good aroma, raisin, chardonnay barrel, vinegar. clean golden orange color, not much head, no lace. medium sourness in flavor, medium body, smooth mouthfeel, tart finish, thatís nice. good tart bite on finish. easy to drink for 10%. expensive, but cheaper than flying to Portland.
