COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Once a year, the first green Willamette & Cascade hops of the season are harvested to supply only enough for a single brew. Within hours, the fresh green hops are combined with new season pale malt, our exclusive yeast culture and pure Tasmanian water to create Cascade First Harvest Ale. This is a traditional top fermented ale with a prominent leafy aroma and a spicy citrus finish resulting from the fresh hops. These herbaceous tones are balanced by a rich and robust maltiness.

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2006 2003 bottle: Easily the best of the Gimmick beers Cascade produces. This years first harvest was the best yet. Pity it costs so damn much. I could only afford a four-pack ($18) and enjoyed every last drop. 2005: not as good as 2003. Something amiss here. It’s not wine for Christ’s sake so how can one vintage be better than the other for a beer? I i don’t get it. 2006: Best of the lot so far. Dark, copper and full flavoured. I’m not a huge fan of Cascade beers, but this was actually very good.

pours a clear brown with no head.not much aroma, and all the flavour of a commercial lager with slightly more bitterness. this beer disappoints on so many levels. shame on you cascade for taking a good idea and turning it in to commercial swill.

2011 Release. Bottle. Pours opaque amber copper orange with long lasting light tan head and decent lace. Aromas of light citrus, pitted fruits, fig, caramel malts, perfume, wheat and some light earthy yeast. Light medium body, decent bitterness for the style - floral and powdery finish with a lingering light sweetness, bitterness and english ale esters.

2011 release bottle from Mane Liquor. Dissapointment is all I can say. Although I have heard reports of last year’s were bad, I actually quite enjoyed it. This year’s however, I don’t. Up front sweet malts with (what some would call) a citric hoppy finish. Barely enough hops there at all. Rather sweet and bland. Would be ok as a sessionable beer if it weren’t for the price

2011 Vintage. Pours a deep copper amber with a foamy white head. Aromas of light biscuit, a hint of honey and minimal spicy/earthy hops. A hint of sweetness upfront, the mildest touch of spicy hops and then it finishes like any other macro Aus lager (eg it tastes like a hangover). Mouthfeel is horribly thin and prickly. Macro lager masquerading as quality craft beer, it left me confused and angry.

ALLOVATE (1708) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - DEC 23, 2010
Tasting from Jan’ 2009 of a 2008 release.
In a tulip it produces a bright auburn copper, radiant with sparse minuscule carbonation. Sudsy white head lathers the glass well with drabby legs. Resinous, piney and floral nose with hints of pear drops and fresh mown grass. Tangy, sweet and juicy fruit esters in the mouth, quite citric, a lot of of orange coming through, some doughy guava and cantaloupe also. Subdued grassy, herbal back end yields a soft bitterness before it drops off short and citric. A band-aid-like phenolic builds in the aftertaste mid way through drinking, odd! A little too gammy and sweet to be consumed anyway but chilled. Carbonation is reasonably spritzy and the body medium-light, but fills out as it warms. Lacks balance overall, though not that bad a drop to be honest. Have to try a 2010 to compare! (33cL, BB 05/01/09, The Beer Store Morley)

No9 2010 330ml bottle. Good average pale but missing the fresh green bite that you’d expect. Ok but meh

Pours copper with nice, lingering white head. Aroma: lots of honey, malt and some weird white wine characters; pear, stone fruits. Strange on the palate, with a kind of sharp bitterness that’s not all there. The carbonation is too high. Not terrible, but far from great. Drinkable.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with smallish slightly cream coloured head. No real lacing as it falls away. Aromas are fairly typical aussie lager with just a touch more hop character coming through. Perhaps some citrus and pine resin. OK i guess. Flavour wise not that great and again pretty much just your typical aussie lager with a slightly more bitter than usual finish. Nothing special.

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2010 cant exactly remember colour, golden to redish hue. aroma of slight caramel, resin, grass, spruce. Obviously it has fresh hops so lots of fresh aromas to it. light sweentness, medium bitterness. body is light to medium, with a thin texture. average carbonation. a fresh bitter finish. quite a good beer, better than just the average. nice freshness and bitterness from the hops.
