[3473-20101113] 750mL bottle. Sweet maple plastic yeast aroma has a hint of cherry. Hazy, dark brown red body with a quick foamy off-white head. Cherry sour yeast flavour has a lingering sour aftertaste. Medium-full body is quite sour. Nice cherry bits, pretty good.

(750 ml bottle at Eric’s black friday event). Pours hazy deep red with off-white. Head. Aroma of sour cherries. Taste is sour. Pretty full bodied with oily texture. Reminds me of concord grape in texture and sourness. Nice beer and very tart.

2010-11-13. Murky dark red body, small off-white head. 3+ Syrupy cherry aroma, bit cough syrup and candy like at times. Flavour is cherry dominant, and finishes sour with a brisk acidity just before the finish goes away. Bit of fruit pit character in the background. 7+ Smooth average palate, well carbonated. Decent but the cherry profile is not to my own tastes (I tend to be fussy about cherry) and it lacks the delicate sophistication of some of their other sour beers. Bottle from the brewery, Portland

Bottle. 2009 bottle. Pours into a tall tulip glass. Pours a slightly opaque reddish color with a big fluffy very fizzy head that settle rather well into a nice coaster. Nice cherry aroma with tart sou notes. The taste is rather more subdued than j thought given the nose. Slightly sweet up front with a subtle tart note mixed in with the cherry and a slight vanilla Oaky flavor. Light mouthfeel. Rather dry. Ends cleanly. Hmmm, not the best example but not terrible either.

Not at all what I expected and not even close to the Lindeman lambics which I thought it would mimic. Tasted like apples soaked in vinegar. Not recommended.

Tasty beer. This beer really needs to warm up bring out sufficient sour punch, but, once it hits a good temperature, it can legitimately compete with the big boys from Belgium. The aroma has lots of sour cherry pie and wood. The woody aroma is particularly interesting. It has a sort of cork/walnut character to it. There’s some interesting spice in there, as well. Light lemons and yogurt foreshadow the pucker. Taste is a bit simpler than the aroma. Good but not incredible pucker. More lemons. Earthy yeast undertones. Drying finish. Not too much vinegar. Very nice lingering aftertaste of cherry skins, lemon zest and unsweetened yogurt. Mouthfeel started off rather effervescent, but I took my time with the beer and it mellowed nicely. Appearance is a deep maroon, increasingly cloudy as you go through the bottle. Cascade is one of the best American brewers of sours, and this kriek is an excellent example of their prowess.

UPDATED: NOV 5, 2010 bottle. pours a dirty plum brown with a small dirty white head. aroma is a nice leathery, creamy cherry, with some really nice sour lactic character. moderate-heavy cherry yogurt sourness. super dry. nice, earthy, leather-laden, creamy sour cherry beer. liked the sharp lactic sourness and creamy pie and earthy sweetness balance. seemed a bit muddled, but remains super drinkable, and accessible even for those new to sour beers. super tasty, like the vast majority of these cascade sours.
