November 13, 2010 - Waterloo tasting with blankboy, jerc, mabel and tupalev. 750ml bottle courtesy of j&m. Bottom of bottle pour for me. Very murky, some floaties, deep brick red with more red than brick - solid creamy beige head. Smells like a kriek - sour cherry, has a fair bit of dry herbal bitterness to it, also moderately funky/yeasty, tons of cherry - not complex, but what’s not to like? Taste is VERY sour, classic simple kriek - can’t fault it - sour, yeasty, background sweetness pretty much completely overpowered by acidic funk, just what I love. Thick, acidic mouthfeel, decent if low-level carbonation, with a nicely long dry acidic finish and linger .... very solid, if straightforward - I would drink this again, and hope to one day.

reddish brown with an off white head. spots of foam are left on the glass.
super sour cherry aroma... along with lots of green, herbaceous goodness, wood and minerality.
the flavor is the same...combined with a tannic dryness on the finish. it is medium bodied, freaky tart and crisp. 8/4/8/4/16

2010 vintage. Pours hazy reddish color with off white head. Aromas of sour cherries. Sour cherry flavor with some wood and mustiness. Lactic sourness. Medium body with lively carbonation. Great sour beer.

This is one of the best sour ales i’ve ever had. Bitingly sour at first before mellowing out to a wonderful flavor. I’m usually disappointed by the lack of sour in american sours, but this lived up to it’s billing and more. great stuff.

Red-brown with a tanned head. Slight off-aroma of paint and/or bitter almond oil, but also nice round cherries, almonds, wood and vinegar. Lovely taste with a round sourness and vinous notes. The acidity stays around in the mouth for a long time.

Bottle. Reddy brown with faint head. Woody sour meaty cherry scent. Tasty sour sharp woody flavour. Beer dances on the tongue with pin pricks of sourness. A bit of yeasty woody cherry thickness that leaves a residue on your tongue that you try and mine after each sip is gone.

Sold as "Kriek (2010)" and 7.11% but I suppose it is this one. Deep red-brown color, small off-white head. Nose is not very strong, berryish with hints of sour cherries. Medium-bodied. Tart and fruity, cherryish flavor. Cherries are not overpowering here. Good kriek.

750 mL won in a bet on the NBA finals. Hah!! This could possibly be the best cherry beer in the world. It is stark red and very cloudy with a fizzy head. The cherry in the aroma is very natural, tart and not at all overwhelming. It’s more like a compliment to the malt and oak than anything. Really the cherry meshes so well it could almost pass as a suggestion from the malt and yeast, except that it’s just too authentic. Another good thing about this beer: it is highly sour. Rich vinegar is all over the aroma and flavor. It keeps this beer from even thinking about being too fruity or too sweet. In addition to the pronounced sourness and cherry flavors , the tasty oakiness I expect from a Flemish sour is here. I am quite blown away by this one. It is amazing that an American brewery has so deftly utilized this style.
