COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Winter Seasonal. Brewed with 4 types of cherries, aged in oak for one year.
Cascade Kriek Ale spends over 6 months of lactic fermentation and aging in small oak barrels. This "Belgian Flanders Style Red Ale" is refermented with a blend of fresh whole Northwest cherries and then hand bottled. Cascade Kriek Ale is bottle fermented and should be refrigerated or stored at cellar temp and served at 45 to 50 degrees.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2014 Bottle: Deep brown mahogany and mostly opaque with a huge, chunky khaki head that settles slowly. Aroma is sour, funky cherry skins. Tart with a dry, musty funk far in the background. Light vanilla and some dry oak in the finish. Taste is plenty of sour cherries and sour grapes with a big vinous and oak flavors. Very nice tartness, gets the saliva glands sweating big-time. Sweet, dying tartness, cherry and grape, oaky finish. Tasty stuff, seems to have more bottle variation than most other Cascades; some bottles have a mild medicinal tone, others are completely void.

Bottle from the Portland barrel house.
2012 vintage. Pours a dark mahogany with a small white head. Smells really jammy. Taste is quite tart but with a fairly hefty body behind it. Juicy and superb. 2014-04-12.

Bottle. Thin light tan head, dark cherry wood brown that’s got ruby highlights. Bright ripe sour fruits, cherry, strawberry, wood, some vinegar and tart aromas. Flavor is quite tart, unripe cherries, some slight fruity sweetness, berry sharp tartness. Medium and very dry. Lovely for the style.

2012 vintage. Pours a very murky black cherry color with a huge head. Aromas of funky fruit, sour nightmares. Taste is lactic sourness all the way, accompanied by more sour. Flavors of sour cherry, raspberry yogurt. Finishes with a very sour cherry blast. This is very good.

Bottle@Home. Nice sour and tart, very funky, very unclean ale with cherries certainly prominent. In the finish a harsh lactic almost vinegar sourness. Yummy.

On tap at Cascade Barrel Room. Dirty dark ruby with a beige ring of head. Straight sour cherries, tart, oak, earthy, moderate carboation and full body. Of all the fruit sours I had here this was the best.

Draft at Cascade Barrel House in Portland, OR on 29 May 2013. Poured a pinkish hue with a thin white head. Pleasant balance of fruity aromas with some acidity and sourness. Definite cherry flavours, but not synthetic. Nice moderate sour flavours.

1012 Project, 7.2% abv. It pours a cloudy reddish brown, has a small head of foam but does a good job with the lacing. The nose is big with lots of sour cherry goodness and a strong oak presence. I could sit and sniff for quite a long time if I wanted to. Glorious sour cherry flavour up front mixed in with a vinegar like sourness and an in the somewhat background taste what oak barrel aging brings. It is beers from Cascade like this that bring me back to their online page to order again and again. Nice combo of carbonation and body makes it eminently mouth pleasing. Another great brew from Cascade. Big surprise there..
