UPDATED: MAR 27, 2014 Bottle: Deep brown mahogany and mostly opaque with a huge, chunky khaki head that settles slowly. Aroma is sour, funky cherry skins. Tart with a dry, musty funk far in the background. Light vanilla and some dry oak in the finish. Taste is plenty of sour cherries and sour grapes with a big vinous and oak flavors. Very nice tartness, gets the saliva glands sweating big-time. Sweet, dying tartness, cherry and grape, oaky finish. Tasty stuff, seems to have more bottle variation than most other Cascades; some bottles have a mild medicinal tone, others are completely void.

Bottle. Mahogny dark red in color with virtually no head. Sour berries, notes of cherries and malts in aroma. Some wood and funkiness too. Nice indeed. Tart, good tasting. Sour notes, more cherries, bit of toast and oaky vinegar in taste. Funky and earthy notes too. Ends quite dry with even some lemony notes behind the cherries. Excellent.

Bottle, shared by a kind soul, in a location remote of my dining room.
Pours a dark red with a small head.

The aroma is rich and very cherry forward, it’s got lemon, it’s got sour cherries, it’s got some more cherries. It’s mildly funky.

The flavor is very sour, it’s woody, it’s intensely lemony with lots of sour cherry character. It’s dry, gracious it’s sour.

I get why folks dig this, I think I would have thought it was heavenly 5 years ago... but its just so damn sour. It’s a good beer, but toning down the sourness could only help it’s cause.

[2/24/15] Draught at Cascade Brewing Barrel House in Portland. Deep red color. Sour cherries aroma with some funk. Nice sour flavor, lactic, funky, puckering, with cherries and oak. Medium-bodied. Lovely.

This brewery knows how to do sour wild ales. Thus cherry bomb rapes the nose. Seems you can smell the different cherries. Flavor is funky tart and cherries wil a cedar oak background.

Mahogany pour, offwhite head. Great tart cherry aroma, amazing flavor of tart cherry, pineapple and citrus. Medium body, light finish. Great.

Appearance: deep garnet/mahogany, with a purplish/tan head and average lacing. Aroma: tart, slightly funky and slightly sweet, with oude bruin notes and a nice dose of cherries. Taste: sharp, sweetish cherries up front becoming more tart as it warms; there’s a bit of leathery caramel malt and some woody sharpness. Finish: lasting sweet-tart cherries over just a hint of funky tootsie roll. Notes: Superlative kriek. Not as over-sweetened as some of the more commercially prevalent varieties (which are nonetheless guilty pleasures), and superior in every way to them. Bottle from Sarah for Beerdvent 2014.

Draft at the raccoon brew pub. 2013 project. Pours a dark reddish color with a super tart cherry aroma. All cherry flavor here, starts sweet and turns sour towards the finish, but not too sour. Just barely sour enough to scare people away, but it’s exactly what I look for. I’m not surprised here. Just another incredible beer from these guys. Loved it.

2013 Project Bottle; Pour is murky mahogany with a fine bubbled beige head into this glass. The head dissipates fairly quickly , into something more on the modest side, and retains well from there. The nose is acetic, modest cherry notes, moving to spicy oak, with some caramel malt presence here. The flavor profile starts slowly, but picks up steam to something tart and soured. Oaked notes kick it off with peppery spice, moving to caramel notes and feint earth, and then the cherry skins and cherry juices move it forward to souring notes of acetic and light lemon, finishing with a lingering tartness on the tongue - It’s not a perfect creation but I was overall impressed by this one
