This is one incredibly sour beer. It hurt my cheeks. I was shocked to have missed this one. So good, with lots of cherries in the nose and taste. Sour, Sour, Sour. Great! Love it!

Visual: 2014 Vintage, Hefty bottle, twisty wire cap and composite cork with their name stamp. Bottle-conditioned. Pours clear cherry wood reddish brown without much of head, thin ring with a couple of islands, clusters of micro active streams.

Nose: pukey caramelized brown sugar, tangy red wine vinegar, sour cherry-apple (lvl-6)-pungency

Attack: crisp-big SOUR and big TARTNESS

Mid-palate: background pervasive wet woodiness, red wine & apple cider vinegar, ACIDIC-tangy, jammy (lvl-5-sweetness), puckery sour red cherry juice, caramelized barley malt

Finish: unsettling in the stomach, sour raspberry-pomegranate juice fruity exhale

Summary: Again, so puckery sour this has to be minutely sipped. I’m liking the wet oaked woodiness and the dark fruity notes are nice, but I can’t fully endorse it as it just doesn’t hit the proper notes for me. Too vinegary acidic sour, not bright nor refreshing enough.

At BBF, clear deep Red color, berry and sourdough bread aroma with some herbs, sweet fruity flavor with a piercing sourness and some vinegar, medium bodied. Very good.

On tap @ Borefts 2016 - De Molen, Bodegraven - NL. Color: deep dark purple beer with no carbonation and small white foam. Smell: full sourness and tart nose with fruity balance. Cherry and oak notes. Mix between Kriek and Old Flemish style. Taste: medium body with sourness, fruity, red fruits as cherry and raspberry. Very intensive taste. Good attenuation. Dry. Aftertaste: fruity, cherry, sourness, tart and dry.

Draught @Borefts 2016 - Dag 1, thanks Art. - I’ll be honest here: for all their 8%+ whopping strength, Cascade’s brews are impressively dry, bone dry even. However, it does not feel like an organic, slow-matured sourness to my palate and enamel and their paint-stripper use of lactic acid tends to give me both heartburn and a tooth ache: less than hearty or wholesome really. Also, Cascade’s souring culture, oaky vinegar and balsamics to a good deal, strips through fruit, leaving behind a generic sourness and almost no depth of wild flavours that just does not speak to me. At this rate of no-delay acetic attack, I had a hard time distinguishing kriek from figs, cranberry from strawberry. And i do like Cantillon Kriek - their is a likeness to Hanssens Kriek, in the sharpness and acetic oak spice. - Willing to reevaluate bottled, but at a €40+/bottle pricepoint on EU import I doubt that will happen soon. Guess my Belgian palate is too Old Europe and geared toward fresh fruit, deep funk and gastronomic balance to join in the eulogies here, Art...Still educational to have had the opportunity to try this, so merci! - Cf. : De Leite Cuvée Soeur’ise.

Draft at Borefts 2016, Day 1. Clear red with no head. Aroma of big tart cherry with light spicy and wood notes. Flavour is above moderate sour. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Lacks complexity but tasty anyway. [23-09-2016]

On tap@Borefest: Pours clear deep amber color with tiny tan purple head. Aroma is the best part, funky, with sour cherries, hint of grape, oak, vanilla,...flavor is overall onedimensional but still you can detect the same notes as by aroma. Finish is dry, astringent, tart. Body is medium, texture soft, carbonation is medium.
