355ml bottle pours brown in color with a 2 finger off-white head that settles down to produce some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is caramel and light roasted malts with a hint of chocolate. Taste is light roasted malt bitterness with some caramel sweetness followed up with a mild hoppy bitter finish. Medium body with light carbonation. One of the better brown ales I have tasted over the years.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2008 Cool label on this 12 oz bottle that poured a nice dark brown with off-white head. Nose of dark malts and nuts. Rich mouthfeel, and flavors of caramel and roast nuts. Nice brown and easy drinking.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2005 (Nitro Draft: Seventh Street Brewhouse in Redmond, OR) I chose the nitro version of this beer over the standard tap, but I probably made the wrong choice. Out of the tap, it poured a lifeless pale brown color, fully clear, with a tiny head that was very slow to materialize. The aroma is nice, with a solid toasty maltiness dominating. But the flavor is very mild, a slightly sweet, gentle toasty maltiness being the major presence here, lightly bitter or hoppy. The palate is extraordinarily flat, thin and watery. Considering how much I’ve enjoyed all the other Cascade Lakes beers I’ve tried, I have to think that this one has been neutered by the nitrogen. I’ll have to retry this again at some point, and I have a bottle at home, so a new review shouldn’t be too far into the future.

p.s. My bottle at home is diacetyl city, butterscotch like you wouldn’t believe, so a new review will not be forthcoming unless I find some other way to retry this beer in the future.

12oz bottle. Rating #40. Clear, dark brown pour with a light beige head. Light sweetness, mild toasted aroma. Flavor has a bit more to it than the aroma, nutty with a bigger toasted presence and a bit of caramel in the finish, pretty tasty stuff. (2204)

Tap at Cascade Lakes Lodge pours out brownish amber topped with a off white head. A nice malt on this one. Almost porter like.
