In the bottle from 99 Bottles, Federal Way, WA: Intolerable blandness. I should have known it from the pour; looks and smells like a lager; cloudy body with tall white head that one doesn’t normally see from strong IPAs; no real forward taste to it, as I couldn’t call it hop or malt dominated; considered making this one a pour out.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Ho hum IPA. Somewhat bland, unappealing and muddy malt flavors (stale bread dough, wet bread crust and unsweetened cookies). Citrusy hop notes (orange mostly), yet not very bright or aromatic. Moderate, balanced bitterness with elements of old hops. Slightly hot alcohol, especially for just 6.9 percent. Not entirely horrible, but to be completely honest, I became bored after about the third sip. And I probably will not buy it again.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Orange pour with a white head. Aroma was a bit bready, some citrus notes and kind of floral. Flavor was citrus and grapefruit, floral again, some light pine notes., A bit muddled. Decent IPA. A bit nondescript but pretty tasty.

Ummm. ..kinda a typical Cascade Lakes product. Meaning: it’s a consistant, reliable brew that has that certain CL profile. Not over the top but not sub standard. Really a great value on tap at the Lodge. Never been a fan of their marketing choices. Label etc. But please don’t shy away from this IPA.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draft at Ventis. Light copper color, white head with decent lacing. Smells citrusy and spicy. Big hop flavor up front with a pleasant lingering bitterness at the end. Medium body. Typical of the NW IPA style, though still light in color enough to qualify as ’pale’.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
fresh bottle. faint sweetish celery seed nose; green and raw. hop flavor much more forward, with the same sweet celery salad character, also touches of lime, candy sugar and vegetables. high bitterness and hip hop acid, oily late and a tad watery. bold and forward but the hop flavor is close to offensive for me (a strange combination of sweet green onion, lime flavoring and candied celery).

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber from 16 Tons. Light orange colored pour with a small white head and zero lacing. Pleasant aroma of citrus, light booze and caramel malt, but sadly this doesn’t come through as well in the flavor which is a little muddled and a little boozier than would be expected from the abv. Pine more dominant than citrus in the flavor as well. Okay beer, but nothing to write home about.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber. Big malt sweetness. Light bitterness throughout. Mellow but still has good flavor. Bland finish that makes the brew slightly off balance.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2012 Bomber, floral, grass, citrus, nice balanced ipa, not super hoppy but just enough to put a smile on your face if you like ipa’s. I could drink several of these in a row and feel good about it. The guys at Cascade Lakes have got my attention after sampling a couple of their different brews now. Look out Deschutes.........
