3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Gromit (479) - Port Orchard, Washington, USA - FEB 28, 2004
This beer calls itself a Golden Ale. As such it's not bad. As a Pale it's not nearly as good.
Pours a cloudy gold with a decent head that leaves behind a respectable lace.
Smells weak. There's a hint of oranges and hops.
Tastes okay. Quite malty, actually, with a definate hop presence but not enough to balance it. There's some serious citrus flavors but they're muddled with a bready taste.
Mouthfeel is creamy. Drinkability is pretty good as it's not offensive at all.
The more I think about it the more it reminds me of a subdued Lagunitas #10. Granted, that's the last beer I had before this one, but I can't help but to note the similarities. This isn't nearly as fruity but they're quite similar.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Aubrey (3192) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - NOV 16, 2003
Gold-orange, slight haze, dead head. No carb. up front, but grows near the finish. Medium-bodied with chalky, lightish, dough-like malts; has a very defined sweet base to it, too. Very fruity and floral hops (orange, grapefruit, apple). Mild, zingy bitterness in the finish. Not bad, but I was underwhelmed.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Slick (1971) - Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA - JUN 10, 2003
medium dark golden color, small lackluster head.Malty partially sweet aroma,Mildly hopped. The fruitiness in the description doesn't quite show up in the aroma IMO.Mild malt taste mild grapefruit taste as well with a medium or less hop presence in the taste. The after taste is grapefruit and mild hopswith a light sweetnes as well.this is nothing special with the exception of having to be tried.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Gusler (2654) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - FEB 27, 2003
The beer pours a limpid golden amber color, the head impressive in size, the color a very light tan with a frothy texture. Nose is malt dominated with a touch of hops, citrus crisp, fresh and clean, a fair sniffer, with the start mostly malt as with the nose also lightly sweet. Finish has a pertinent acidity, the hops apropos to the style. A drinkable beer, but average is about the best I can do as a rating, needs a bit more body in my humble opinion.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 AxeMaster221 (343) - Portland, Oregon, USA - SEP 23, 2002
Had on tap at the brewpub in Redmond. Nice mild hop aroma for a pale, and was a golden color with a smallish white head that diminished rather quickly. Alcohol not noticable in the taste, only a slight fruitiness evident. A decent thirst quencher on a hot day.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 beerguy101 (4925) - Newark, California, USA - SEP 20, 2002
Medium gold color, medium head. A medium bodied golden ale. Fairly malty and somewhat hoppy. Lots of flavor. Bit of a hop bite for a golden ale. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. A little bit over carbonated.
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 LuckeyHaskins99 (180) - Toledo, Ohio, USA - FEB 18, 2002
I miss Ballantine’s IPA and this one reminds me of why.... not a gret brew, but it does have a good bitter taste. Rather light, good with fish, but not chicken or beef. Slight bit of hoppiness, clean finish.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 kutellad99 (1) - Bend, Oregon, USA - NOV 12, 2001 does not count
This is an excellent, well balanced beer. It represents the ’golden’ category very well. It may be hard to find now as it is only in central Oregon, but keep your eyes peeled as it moves towards Portland.
