Bottle:   Garnet colored, moderate to large frothy sandy head, very nice lacing.   Very soft bistuity malt like nose.   Smidgen of whole wheat bread like grains.   Smooth on the tongue, yet not heavy.   Nice malt base, fairly biscuity without being cloying.   Very clean overall.   For a style that I am not too keen on, this one I am really enjoying.   Wow, yeah, very clean and crisp.   Never thought I would say this, but very refreshing for an English Strong Ale.   Moderate body, smooth almost velvety mouthfeel.   A touch of warming on the backside. &nbps Seems pretty simple, yet very well put together.   Very slight hint of some medicinal alcohol at the exit, but its minor.   This is one biscuity yet not cloying ESA.   I like it!

A bottle from Yamaichi via rakuten. I guess the low marks had me not expecting so much so I was pleasently surprised when I pour a wonderful reddish brown beer with a weak head. It has a great malty aroma of caramel & toffee. The flavor is really nice, it starts off with sweet flavors from the malts: toffee, caramel, figs, etc. It’s then followed by a dry hoppy finish but the pine flavor of Cascades is really muted. All in all I really like this beer!

Thin head on a dark copper colored body. Smell is a faint dark fruit, mostly plum. Taste is dark fruit sweetness with mild bitterness. Good balance. Slightly fizzy texture, moderate carbonation and medium body, but with a sticky feeling. Nice with good flavors, though lacking in the aroma area.

Sweet and wholesome malt-forward brew with hints of Hawaiian bread, caramel and syrup. A little too sweet for me, though it does have a slight hop snap. Sweetness lingers and reminds me of sugarcoated pine and gummy candy. OK beer, but not overly exciting or festive.

Amber colored, with rocky beige head. Toasted amber and chocolate malt nose, quite nice. Flavor is similarly toasted amber malt, with nibbets of chocolate mixed in. Easy sipper that seems closer to 5.5% than 6.9% ABV. This is a solid toasted amber brew.

Out of the bottle from Fred Meyer. Pours a dark brown with a very small head. Smell is a little grainy as well as the taste. Pretty average beer all around.

UPDATED: NOV 15, 2015 A Winter Seasonal English Strong Ale. Ever since moving to the Pacific N.W. I haven’t seen the point of making Winter beers. There is no winter in Oregon, just a slightly colder version of Fall/Spring. Anyways, the beer...... It is considerably strong, bitter, cringe-worthy. Heavy flavor, distinct taste. If it had been snowing this evening, I’m sure I would have liked this beer even more. Re-rating: Sampled at the McKenzie Cider and Craft Beer Festival, November 14th, 2015.

This is the same beer as santas helper just relabeled. Bought at Boise coop Look red with copper tones. White foamy head that disappears soon leaving lace Smell not very strong. I kind of want more out of that.. Taste- a red with more flavor. Great spice but not overpowering. I can taste the malt in there without wishing I hadn’t. Feel. Smooth medium body. Overall a great beer.
