Manhattan NW, a NW style sour ale that was, until recently, a secret. It’s a blend of Blond Quad aged in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels on 150 pounds of sour pie cherries for five months before additionally aging on apricot noyaux for three months. Aromas of cherries, Bourbon, sweet candy and hints of spice are noticed up front. Tart cherry skins and Maraschino cherries on the palate lead to a dance of rich cherry notes that are followed by slight Bourbon sweetness. Much like the process to make fission, the steps involved here are greater than the sum of their parts. What isn’t a secret? At 11.32% ABV, you’re going to need a designated driver

Pours a darker orange color with off-white head. Sour cherries, tartness, bourbon, oak, and some dark fruit and spice on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes tart and dry.

On tap @ Avery Sour Fest 2014. Pour is murky orange with a small white head and good lacing. Punchy orange, tang, caramelly, bready, tannic, peach skins, cherry pit, and spice in the aroma. Taste is cherry pie, vanilla, graham crackers, orange peel, light spice, apricots, and wood with a medium sour finish. Medium body with high carbonation. Pretty good drank.

At Avery Sour Fest. Cloudy brown with reddish tinge. Nose of coconut and light oak. Full bodied, with some light pie cherry flavors, but overwhelmed by coconut, I guess from the barrel? Coconut was too much for me to love this one.

Poured 2011 from bottle to glass. Hazy orange hue with fizzy white head that dissipates. Aroma is cherries, oak, sugar, lactic, spice. Mouthfeel is great with a medium light body and great carbonation. Taste is dry throughout with a tart slightly astringent following and ethanol in the finish. Overall this is a great oaky sour brew!

Bottle (thanks to goodbyeohio for sharing)... Poured cloudy, deep pinkish-red with a thin, off-white, mildly pink head. Great tasting Cascade sour beer. When the nail and they get it so right. Nice, lush, vibrant, tart cherry, vanilla, and a candied sweetness flavor along alcohol heat. The tartness was focused and puckering without leaning too heavy in the acetone realm. Unfortunately a lot of the bourbon and barrel seemed to have dropped out, but still a boozy heat to bring around the sourness.

Cascade does it again for me. Just a great huge ABV sour that i didnt realize was this strong. Tons of leather, cherry, walnuts, vanilla, cola,.. Nice tart finish with moderate sweetness and tartness.

Bottle supplied by AdamJackson. Many thanks! To undersized snifter, it pours a hazy orangeade brown with which an off-white ringed head half a finger in length stood. Think lemon tarts, straw, lactose, candied sugar, salted caramel, wildflower honey, vitamins, and oak. Alcohol crept like a motherfucker. A lot going on here.

Taste at RBNG. Thanks, Adam! Pours light brown with hardly a bubble. Aroma of dark cherry, leather, vanilla caramel. Very delicious, taste is mostly perfectly tart cherry.

UPDATED: MAR 17, 2014 Huge thanks again to Adam Jackson, this beer is amazing, lots of tartness with bourbon barrel flavors i really like it. Huge cherry flavors, strong and sharp, good dark fruit bourbon flavors, very nicely made.

Pours murky red with thin, quickly dissipating head. Aroma if cherry, bourbon, apricot, currants. Taste is very complex with maraschino and sour cherry flavors, apricot, oak, bourbon, vanilla sweetness. Moderately tart. Mouthfeel is more full than most sours. Overall amazing sour. Very under rated. I've had many Cascade sours and this is top 2 for sure. I should have bought another bottle ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
