COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Manhattan NW, a NW style sour ale that was, until recently, a secret. It’s a blend of Blond Quad aged in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels on 150 pounds of sour pie cherries for five months before additionally aging on apricot noyaux for three months. Aromas of cherries, Bourbon, sweet candy and hints of spice are noticed up front. Tart cherry skins and Maraschino cherries on the palate lead to a dance of rich cherry notes that are followed by slight Bourbon sweetness. Much like the process to make fission, the steps involved here are greater than the sum of their parts. What isn’t a secret? At 11.32% ABV, you’re going to need a designated driver

Bottle shared by jlruthven...thanks Josh! - Pours rosy amber with a thin white head. Nose is dark sweet cherries and a bit of booziness. Taste is more cherries, deep and rich, with a bit of whiskey sweetness and a finish that tastes like bitters. Thin and fluffy in the mouth. Very tasty!

Bottle corked and caged, aromas of funk, bourbon, light cherries, and some earth. Flavors are the same with light sourness in the aftertaste, thirst quenching.

750 ml bottle sampled at a tasting. 2011 project. Pours a mostly clear reddish-amber color with a tinted ring for a head. Aroma is more sour, with tart cherries, lemon, oak, vanilla, and funk. The flavor is almost all sweet cherry. Some vanilla, cream, and funk, but mostly sweet cherry. Fruit punch. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a vinous, funky mouthfeel. Really unique. Hope you like cherries.

At Avery Sour Ale Fest 2013. Slightly hazy reddish copper with a thin bubbly white head. Nose has some sour apricots and sour raspberries with a slight touch of that same plastic used on computer chips. Taste starts fruity and acidic, then gets bitter and a little boozy and cloying. Lasting funky yeastiness. Doesn’t really all fit together.

Bottle @ Avery Sour Fest 2013. Pours a bit hazy red violet appearance with an off white head. Tart pie cherry, tangy herbal aroma. A bit herbal, slightly floral, very sour pie cherry/berry fruity, lightly woody flavor with some acid on the finish.

750ml bottle poured a clear reddish amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of cherry, whiskey, vanilla and oak. Palae was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of cinnamon, toffee, whiskey, oak and light cherry with a crisp dry lingering cinnamon finish.

Sample at the Barrel House. Pours a clear Rosé wine color with a thin white head that diminishes quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of cherries, oak and vanilla. Full-bodied with a midlly boozy character and flavors of tart cherries, caramel malt, Hawaiian Punch and yeast. The finish is lightly sour with a cherry and yeast aftertaste. Comes perilously close to becoming a mess but it works for me, enjoyable beer.

Fresh cherries, bourbon, hearty Cascade yeast. Sourness bites after each sip, imparting black cherries and boozy fruits. A bit hot for a Cascade sour, but man, this is good.

Pinkish-red pour with a white head. Big cherry aroma. Kind of a cherry pie and spice thing going on. Lemon, caramel, and brown sugar. Some vanilla, oak, and a touch of fruit punch sweetness. The flavor is a bit sweet as well with lots of cherry and fruit punch. Mild spice notes, caramel, sugar, and vanilla. Some lactic sourness and lemon notes, oak, and a hint of grass.
