Manhattan NW, a NW style sour ale that was, until recently, a secret. Itís a blend of Blond Quad aged in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels on 150 pounds of sour pie cherries for five months before additionally aging on apricot noyaux for three months. Aromas of cherries, Bourbon, sweet candy and hints of spice are noticed up front. Tart cherry skins and Maraschino cherries on the palate lead to a dance of rich cherry notes that are followed by slight Bourbon sweetness. Much like the process to make fission, the steps involved here are greater than the sum of their parts. What isnít a secret? At 11.32% ABV, youíre going to need a designated driver

I obtained this bottle in a trade with a great trader @thebeerprophet. Brought this to a bottle share at Proof. Pours a hazy very dark peach color. Good amount of head on the first pour that dissipated fairly quickly. Second pour got more head than the first. Nice medium white collar. Aroma is very earthy/woody and sweet-tart cherry blend. Taste is amazing. Very similar to the aroma, with some of the caramel/wood coming out. Mouthfeel is viscous for a sour; like chewing an overripe marischino cherry. Nice carbonation despite the low head. Pretty thick body. So glad I traded for this to share with good people.

At BBF, clear lightish Red color, sour bread aroma with hints of vanila and oak, dominant Red winey vinegar flavor with fruity hints and some oak tannins. Really nice.

2014 vintage. 3 oz pour at Hops & Pie. Peachy orange appearance with a white head. Aroma of sweet cherries, sour funk and light oak. Similar flavor, adding more oak, light vanilla and moderate sourness. Medium body, finishing with just a hint of bourbon. Excellent.

Bottle, 2011 project, thanks to Homer! Pours clear apple red, small pink head, dissipates leaving a ring with decent lacing. Aroma is bourbon and cherry, lemon, oak. Flavor is light plus tart, pretty funky, oak tannins and horseblanket. Medium body, hints of lactic acidity at the end, along with loads of dusty musty funk. Guessing this one funked up while in the cellar, but I am not complaining. ABV perhaps comes through in the far finish, but for the most part this is a dangerous beer.

draft at BBF, poured a deep dark red to amber colour with an off head. again a strong lactic sourness, tannis notes, cherry syrup, alcohol heat, cinnamon, oak, raspberry, vinegar sourness. horrible. itís such a shame if you see the bottle prices for their beers, compared to the low quality sour you get in return.

Tap @ Borefts. Vinous aroma with coconut, orange, oak and vanilla. Sour, oaky flavor. Vinous, dried orange. Bourbon. Malty sweet, but nice and complex.

Red fruits, (black)berries; also quite sour. Also a bit of wild yeast. It drinks very easy. Maybe a bit to easy for such a heavy beer.

Sampled at Borefts 2016 - Dag 1, merci Art. - Iím afraid that I found this lacto-powered "sour" just as sharply acidic (straight vinegar), lacto-derived and overharsh (solvent) as the previous ones, though I tried to like them, see what the hype, queues and price tags are all about and respect the well-hidden alcohol of this imperial sours. - What I taste is a thin sour skeleton, artificially cherry-flavoured mineral vitamin tablet dissolved into a fizzy soda, organic traces of those original fruits devoured by an aggressive lacro culture that cuts straight into the enamel of my teeth the way no oude lambiek or Belgian geuze does, andonly a few kettle-soured Berliner Weisses have done so far. - What remains: cinnamon dust, maybe some almond powder sprinkled over an instant lacto sour lemonade. "the steps involved here are greater than the sum of their parts." - 5 Cascade samples in, I have to subscribe to this, although at an affordable price, count me in for a blind tasting against e.g. De Leiteís instant BA lacto-sours with some more body...
