Manhattan NW, a NW style sour ale that was, until recently, a secret. It’s a blend of Blond Quad aged in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels on 150 pounds of sour pie cherries for five months before additionally aging on apricot noyaux for three months. Aromas of cherries, Bourbon, sweet candy and hints of spice are noticed up front. Tart cherry skins and Maraschino cherries on the palate lead to a dance of rich cherry notes that are followed by slight Bourbon sweetness. Much like the process to make fission, the steps involved here are greater than the sum of their parts. What isn’t a secret? At 11.32% ABV, you’re going to need a designated driver

Pours a redish copper color with lots of sediment and small bubbles floating around. No head retention at all, resembles a Manhattan very well. Smells like oak, vanilla, sour cherries, vinegar and a bit of char. Maraschino cherries are the first thing on the tongue, followed by a good bit of vinegar sourness and bourbon vanilla sweetness. The finish is a mix of dry tart cherries and a very mild bourbon barrel heat. It is very dry, little champagne like bubbles to it, that leaves a bit of sweetness lingering on the palate. This beer was amazing, a great mix of sweet and sour, fruit and whiskey. The abv was hidden well and the beer was executed to perfection

Lactic sour, cherry, oaky Woody, dry tannic aroma. Very clean, not funky. Taste has all the same with some slight bourbon flavors in the finish, but they are subdued. All the flavors work so well together and are so balanced. Sour maybe 6 or 7 of 10, not overly sour (but still pretty sour), perfectly balanced. Get a little more Woody bourbon vanilla flavors as I drink more, but still slight bourbon. Dry fermented cherry, not sweet. So good. One of the top cascade sours. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I obtained this bottle in a trade with a great trader @thebeerprophet. Brought this to a bottle share at Proof. Pours a hazy very dark peach color. Good amount of head on the first pour that dissipated fairly quickly. Second pour got more head than the first. Nice medium white collar. Aroma is very earthy/woody and sweet-tart cherry blend. Taste is amazing. Very similar to the aroma, with some of the caramel/wood coming out. Mouthfeel is viscous for a sour; like chewing an overripe marischino cherry. Nice carbonation despite the low head. Pretty thick body. So glad I traded for this to share with good people.

Holy moly, this is an interesting beer. Really solid sour. Lots of cherry character, almost like a liquor. Some vanilla, honey, and sour apple. Tried at the Oedipus international beer festival in 2016 with Dave.

750 mL bottle poured and shared. Much thanks to Erika. Pours A dark, thick, cloudy amber color with a quick fading head. Huge cherry pie aroma. Very nice. Flavor is very intense sour cherry flavor. Liquid cherry pie. Huge pucker on this one. Another incredible beer from these guys. Loved it.

750 cc from Whole Foods PM and Wegmans. Pours hazy ruby with fizzy, white head. Nose is earthy cherry, mild oak, spice. Tastes of cherry, oak, mild spice, and a tart finish. Delicious.

7/21/16. 750mL bottle from Five Points. For $35 fucking dollars. Seriously, wtf? Red pour, looks about like red Kool-Aid, I had to pour hard to get any semblance of a head, and there was a little, but it sizzled away quick. Not surprising given the acidity and ABV, I suppose. Whiskey is apparent on the aroma, loads of cherries, lots of sourness, some other fruits. Super sour flavor, very sour, tons of sour cherries, undertones of whiskey, tobacco, oak, leather, fruity. Like a super sour cherry sour in the bright ways but also those nice undertones of a complex Flanders or something. Interesting, tasty, very sour, and too damn expensive, but still delicious.

Bottle generously shared by Seth. Reddish brown pour with a white head. Cherry and barrel aromas. Delicious cherry, stone fruits, and assorted berries blend seamlessly with rich caramel malts, vanilla, and oak notes. Complex with a superb mouthfeel. The ABV is totally hidden. Another stunner from the Cascade crew......

Poured 2011 from bottle to glass. Hazy orange hue with fizzy white head that dissipates. Aroma is cherries, oak, sugar, lactic, spice. Mouthfeel is great with a medium light body and great carbonation. Taste is dry throughout with a tart slightly astringent following and ethanol in the finish. Overall this is a great oaky sour brew!

Draft at Republic - so nice to have Cascade in Minnesota finally! Beautiful dark pink pour with slight white lacing. Jammy cherry nose. Big tart cherry bomb, but with much more depth than some of Cascade’s sours: cherry skin, light bourbon sweetness in the finish. Legit.
