Nightfall Blackberry starts as a soured blonde wheat beer aged for 12 months in oak barrels, then laid on blackberries for another six. It features intense fruitiness and a concentrated color and aroma.

Clear deep red color, steady pinky head. Milky blackberry aroma. Light to medium-bodied. Tart, fruity, black berries, cellar and berry stones in the flavor. Lingering tartness in the aftertaste.

A: The pour is a dark reddish, purple in the glass with a nice pink foam on top. S: The nose is, unfortunately, somewhat buttery which covers up the tartness and acidity. The blackberries are there, but not as prominent as I would have thought. T: Luckily, there is some improvement in the flavor with a nice lactic tartness which works very nicely with the sweet blackberry flavor. There is a mustiness and a mild funk which is very pleasing. M: A lighter bodied beer with a moderate level of carbonation and a somewhat dry finish. D: A good beer, for sure, but perhaps I was expecting more. The nose was a bit off-putting, but the flavors made up for it.

On tap at Cascade Tasting Room, split with Matts_Property, pours a beautiful ruby red with a small white head. Aroma of sour blackberries, wheat and dry red wine qualities. Flavour of sharp, tart berries, citrus fruit pits and black currants, with a dry fruity tartness on the finish. Solid, though sharp.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours purple/reddish/berry/copper with a creamy pinkish head. Medium body with foamy carbonation. It is definitely a sour (based on balck berry-12 months in oak - 6 months with berries). It is berry sour. There’s astringent oak. It’s wonderful.

On tap at Avery Sour Fest poured aclear garnet with a lasting pinkish head. Aromas of blackberry, barnyard funk, light oak and light spice. Palate was light to medium bodied and crisp with lightly dry tart finish. Flavors of blackberry, oak, some barnyard funk and a hint of spice with a crisp lightly dry lingering tart fruity finish.

A wine red ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, a superb sweet lactic berry with sweet wine, light Brett, very nice. In mouth, a nice kriek like ale with nice epsom salt, black currant, light but refreshing. Excellent. On tap at brewpub July 31 2011.

2010 sample at the Barrel House. The beer pours a hazy ruby red color with a medium pinkish-white head that evaporates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of oak, berries, and malt. Medium body with flavors of vinous oak, berries, earthy yeast and malt. The finish is tart with a blackberry and yeast aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Woodshop 5.0 Ruby/pink pour, fluffy white head. Cheesy aroma with some berries and wood. Flavor is sour and mix of some sweet berries. Oaky and a bit odd. A bit of butter notes and something else odd. But highly enjoyable for sure.
