4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap 5 oz pour at Elysian’s Great Pumpkin beer festival 2013. Pours a slightly hazy amber with a tan head that leaves good lacing. Smells of pumpkin, spices, rum and oak. Tastes of all the same things in the smell with a vineger like sourness. mouthfeel is nice and creamy the good carbonation and a dry finish. Glad that I got to try this amazing beer.

750ml, chugged. Tart, minimal spice, minimal bourbon, minimal sweetness. Pretty palate wrecking. Decent, not their best work.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewery. Amber. Take a pumpkin ale, triple the amount of pumpkin, third the amount of spice, and age it on oak to give it a sharp tang. Pretty darn good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft, 2014 at the barrel house. Copper amber pour with a heavy foam head. Very mild aroma of soft grain and spice. Flavor is sour berry up front, but transitions quickly to a pumpkin like flavor that?s a bit of a rough mix. Got better as i went, and some green apple notes came through. Weirs sour for me, but not bad.

2014 Project; Sampled December 2015
A steady pour into my Spiegelau wheat glass produces a one-finger thick, tan colored head. The beer is a dark amber color that shows a brilliantly clear, bright amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells tart up front (lactic) with a backing of soft pumpkin pie spices; there is perhaps even a touch of pumpkin flesh aromatics here. Soft toasted oak notes accentuate a nutty character, and there is even some spicy, woody aromatics. As the beer warms up, barrel notes add some heat, a bit of hot alcohol, and some spicy wood character to the nose. General fruit aromas suggest notes of brandy, tart plums.
Sour, tart, and with a finish that joins this with oaky astringency and woody flavors. This has a light carbonation that adds a touch of prickliness to the texture and the body is fairly light for a beer of this strength, but there is some soft tannic structure, perhaps a touch of residual malt, but really this finishes quite clean and light. Hints of spices add a roundness to the finish, almost savory in character; woody cinnamon and nutmeg, with hints of ginger and sweet suggesting cinnamon notes. Toasted oak notes, perhaps a touch of nutty grain, and a bit of toasted brown grain character subtly infuse the flavor here.
This is a pretty nice beer. An 11% soured Pumpkin beer, I definitely did not know what to expect, this is certainly dangerous at this strength, but is a nice sipping beer. I like that the barrel character is soft and subtle, as it could easily be overwhelming, and the spices too are defined well enough in the nose, but on the subtle side, and quite subtle in the flavor, which is also really nice.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
2014 project: Blend of select quad ales aged in bourbon and brandy barrels for up to 22 months with pumpkin and spices. REVIEW: aroma of oaky wood and brandy with lactic sour and some nutmeg pumpkin spice. The pumpkin is an after thought. Mostly sour, oaky, brandy. Taste is a full flavored, lactic sour beer. Maybe 6 of 10 sour. Pumpkin and nutmeg spice is subtle and a very good authentic flavor, but is subdued. Really nice. Really nice bourbon/brandy oakyness. Sweetness of the quad is not noticeable as it is all sour, but almost get some of the fig/date like flavors of the quad. Lots going on with this one and all the flavors really work great. Best pumpkin beer ever and a really good sour in general.

Aged bottle from 2014. Pours a hazy lighter brown color with off-white head. Rum, pumpkin, pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and clove), and funky tartness on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes very tart, but with some spice, and dry.
