This NW style sour old ale is no trick, it’s all treat. We smashed and triple roasted 50 lbs of pumpkin down to 6 lbs, then aged the beer for 11 months on the roasted pumpkin in rum barrels. The aromas of spiced rum, mingled with the soft notes of roasted pumpkin, are notice up front. Spice, roasted pumpkin and rum is followed by a soft warming from within. Be warned, you might get pumpkin smashed!

On tap 5 oz pour at Elysian’s Great Pumpkin beer festival 2013. Pours a slightly hazy amber with a tan head that leaves good lacing. Smells of pumpkin, spices, rum and oak. Tastes of all the same things in the smell with a vineger like sourness. mouthfeel is nice and creamy the good carbonation and a dry finish. Glad that I got to try this amazing beer.

Tap at the Barrel House. Spectacular beer. Murky orange-amber pour with a monster head. Pumpkin pie spices and rum jump out on the aroma. Similar taste, with some tart fruit skins - grape/cherry maybe. Delicious.

Keg at the taproom in PDX, 11/11/14. Lightly hazed chestnut brown with a moderate beige covering that dissipates then retains as edgeing. Nose is tangy orange marmalade, spice, pumpkin essence, tarte green berry, light fart. Taste comprises more pumpkin notes, light acidity, tangy berry fruit, must, spice, cherry skins, figs, nutmeg, damp wood. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, tangy licks and moderate puckerings in the close. Solid pumpkin sour - impressive stuff.

Pour on tap at Avery Sourfest 2014, hazy orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of pumpkin, crust, some vanilla, some sour fruit, touch of rum, earth, touch of spice, cinnamon, clove in there. Taste is a mix of toffee, caramel, pumpkin, pie crust, nice rum and oaky tones into some sour fruit, some cinnamon, nutmeg, finishing fairly sour, slightly sweet.

[6577-20140808] Bottle. Fruity pumpkin pie filling and allspice crust aroma. Slightly hazy, dark amber brown body with a quick foamy white head. Soured fruit skins flavour has a grainy malt sweet rum barrel finish. Medium body is quite sour. Interesting. (8/3/7/3/15) 3.6

On tap at the Elysian Great Pumpkin Fest in Seattle. Colour...clear Amber with a thin veil of an off white head. Nose...lightly acetic with gently spicy notes and hints of pie pumpkin. Palate...much more pumpkin on the palate than the nose, and plenty of funk as well, though not necessarily barnyard-like. The pumpkin lingers all about the palate and the spice remains subtle. The finish is long, with some tartness, orchard fruit and of course, pumpkin.

Shared a 750ml bottle with my wife. Big leathery character in both the aroma and flavor. Subtle spicing, very well balanced against the sour. A pleasant chocolaty finish.
