COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This NW-style sour ale is no wallflower. It started as a strong spiced quad that was barrel aged for 21 months, then aged for another 6 months on blueberries. Huge herbal notes of dense blueberries in the nose give way to hints of oak and leather. Rich, earthy notes of dark fruit on the palate yield to a rich, velvety finish that dries out to a base note of blueberry skins. This is a single barrel project.

Cask at Cascade. Pours a bright ruby color with a medium white head. A big woody nose of blueberries, some oak and sour almost aggressive notes. The flavor is similar with tart berries, wood, vanilla, tannins, almost acidic but overall the full picture is only moderately sour. Maybe some vinegar. Nice.

On tap at Cascade, pours an opaque ruby red with a tiny head. Aroma of potent blueberries, followed by oak and some tartness. Flavour brings out potent blueberries, followed by notes of vanilla, oak, and a little treacly sweetness. The sourness is medium for Cascade, and the complexity is very high. High drinkability, even though there is a warming effect. Wonderful concoction.

Draft at stone sour fest 2013. Pours a purple color, with a thin head. Deep berry flavor, a bit sugary, blueberry, sourness, herbal, and a touch of lemon. Too much herbalness. Not Cascade’s best, but decent.

Stone Sour Fest 2013. Bright ruby pour with no head. Extremely herbal aroma. Smoke, bandiads, berries, and some lemon. A bit sweet and sugary. The flavor is really phenolic. Lots of smoke and bandaid. Soda-like sweetness, herbs, berries, and lactic sourness.

On tap at Brouwer’s Sour Fest 2013. Like the normal blueberry, but with more blueberry and more oak. This is exactly what the blueberry should have been. Herbal, leafy blueberry on the nose, and big tart fruit in the flavor. Really nice.
