This NW-style sour ale is no wallflower. It started as a strong spiced quad that was barrel aged for 21 months, then aged for another 6 months on blueberries. Huge herbal notes of dense blueberries in the nose give way to hints of oak and leather. Rich, earthy notes of dark fruit on the palate yield to a rich, velvety finish that dries out to a base note of blueberry skins. This is a single barrel project.

On draft at Hunahpu day 2015. Pours a purple-pink with a white head. Nose is berry, vinegar, malt, some spice, and some sour cherry with bits of booze. Flavor is similar with malt, vinegar, sour cherry, berry, leather, and earthy dark fruit. Medium to full in body and a big one.

Pouring at EBF 2015. Pours purple with a thin white head. Big blueberries and acid, blueberry, sweet fruit juice, acid. Sweet and fruity. A bit too sweet for me.

Draft pour at the Sixgill. Pours a pinkish purple color with a ring foam head. Fresh blueberry aroma, as expected with some black cherry too. Flavor is a ton of sour blueberry, with some floral notes, and a bit of a sugar sweet and berry sour finish. Overall a fantastic addition to an already very impressive Cascade sour lineup. Nicely done.

On tap at Fredfest. Pours purplish red with a tiny pink head and a blueberry aroma. There is a hearty sweet malt flavor with a hint of candi sugar and lots of blueberry. There is a noticeable wine barrel influence but the bourbon is barely detectable. An extremely good brew.

EBF. Pours a cloudy purple with a small pink-ish head that fades fast and don’t leave much lacing. Nose is of flowers, cherry and light tart and vinous (a good change of pace when it comes to Cascade sours). Taste is moderately tart (nice) and fruity. Body is medium, carbonation moderate and acidity level is just perfect and surprising for a Cascade sour. Pleasing, I’d drink that again!

sample @ EBF 2015. unclear purplish-reddish without a head or lacing. lavender and other very floral notes - i’m guessing violets; sweetish red/brown maltiness - cherries and lots of red fruitiness; very astringent and woody, light acidity - citric mostly, just a touch of acetic, booze. light to low carbonation, medium body - oily; slightly boozy and spicy-floral finish. controlled level of acidity which is uncommon from cascade. surprisingly drinakble to at above ten percent abv. a nice oaky and floral sipper.

Sample @ EBF.

Appearance: A bit hazy reddish violet with a small bubbly white head and no lacing.

Aroma: Quite herbal and floral, brettanomyces, fruity presence and oak. Light spiciness.

Taste: Surprisingly malty with floral presence, dark fruits, boozy notes, oak and light spiciness.

Palate: Medium body. Soft carbonation. Floral finish with fruity and oaky aftertaste. Warming.

Overall: Not too acidic, especially considering it’s from Cascade. A bit heavy on alcohol. Super floral. Not really easy to drink.

Pours a nice purple ruby pour with pinkish head. Aroma is jammy ripe blueberries, candy sugar, and vanilla. Taste is tart and sweet jammy. More of a fruit beer then sour wild but man its good.
