3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
375 ml bottle. Pitch black with a thick brown head. Massive aroma of milk chocolate, malted milk, and a bit of earthiness. Roasty, but not burnt. Nice creamy texture and awesome chocolate malt flavour. Roasty finish with some lingering bitterness.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours jet black with a thick brown head, average retention. Very smokey burnt aroma. Mouthfull is medium but flavour still reasonably full, with some nice roasty bitterness. A little metallic and dirty in the finish, but pretty solid overall, very much in line with invalid stout.

Bottle. Got this one from motelpogo in Sydney in an on the street trade! Saved for a few months and it is time. Pours nice and dark with a ruby black color and a tan head. Should I spell color with a "u" since this is an Aussie beer? Cool bottle, except that it is a twister. Nice roasted coffee quality. Decent brew with a medium body and a roasted malt flavor and nose. Thanks go out to duff and motelpogo!

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draught at Irish Murphy, Ballarat. Black, average beige head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Light-medium bodied with some molasses and somewhat raw mouthfeel. Short grassy finish. The Export stout felt more mature and refined
Earlier Rating: 6/10/2005 Total Score: 3.4
Bottled (at AIBA 2005). Very black. Tarry licorice aroma. Sweet and rich on coffee. The coffee just lingers on, passing the somewhat syrupy mouthfeel into the finish where it overpowers the bitterness. One dimensional, and perhaps with simplistic malt character, but after 28 hours on airplanes and umpteen beers at the festival I sure do appreciate the coffee in this beer :-)

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Very dark brown w/ frothy brown foam. Mildly roasty w/ a slight chocolate & coffee character. Thin, somewhat fizzy feel. Flavour is typical--sweet, light roastiness, chocolate, coffee, mild hops--if not somewhat bland.

Dark brown, creamy head. Low carbonation. Light sweet aroma. Light bodied for a stout with slightly bitter, creamy palate.

Black with lace in glass. Appropriate carbonation and medium mouthfeel. More bitterness than roast, some coffee, caramel malt and syruppy sweetness chunk in the middle. Bittersweet finish. Drinkable reasonable stout. Thanks DouglasD for bringing back.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown head, pitch black color. I couldn’t figure out the nose at first, but after it warmed up a bit I got sensous milk chocolate, dark fruit and licorice and BBQ sauce. Very light bodied with milk chocolate dancing in the mouth. The finish is a bit watery, but still has some decent hop presence. Decent stuff.

2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Medium-bodied stout in the Australian style. Poured the colour of tar with a disappointingly short head. Interesting nose: roast nuts, chocolate, port, mud. The palate is light by international standards but fairly typical of local stouts (no demand for heavy winter warmers). Full-flavoured: chocolate and burnt toast. The finish lingers but is a little harsh for my taste. Much prefer the Coopers. (Bottle)
