3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted 31/05/2007. 330ml bottle, with the tasting group, at Brendonís. Nose of sweet roast coffee, slightly grain and a wee touch of cardboard. Smooth roastiness in the mouth, nice sweet underbelly, just a ltouch of hops (probably well below style here). Roast barley give that edge that almost hints at sourness. Perhaps a shade tired but undoubtedly still a very nice beer. Nice Australian-style export stout. A little cleaner, simpler, softer in the roast depeartment, and lower in alcohol, than a classic FES but very very drinkable.

Tasted 21/08/2005. 375ml bottle.
Dark brown, near black, with a beautiful dark tan head that, unfortunately, disappears before I get a real chance to appreciate it. There goes a mark or two. Now it just looks like coke. Light caramelly perfumed nose and fizziness is also reminiscent of that old gut rotter. A bit of chocolate just picks it up a little. Big caramel and chocolate malt sweetness up front is followed by a strong roasty malt dryness and just a touch of hop bitterness. A bit lightweight and fizzy - its drinkable but thereís plenty of better stouts about these days. Drop the fizz and Iím sure it would be a whole lot better.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Black body with a medium-sized mocha-brown head. The aroma is nutty and has notes of toffee, caramel, and grass. Tastes a bit of sour malt and hefty chocolate thickness. Spritzy and bitter in the finish.

Bottle. Black colour with a nice light brown long lasting head. Aroma of well roasted malts and some coffee. Great creamy mouth feel! Lovely roasty malty flavour, little bitter-chocolate, coffee and a nice dry finish. Long aftertaste. Great brew!!!

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
As a stout fan this is definitely one for fellow admirers. Maybe a little too heavy to drink all night but thats what I look for in a good stout, itís a great starter. Pours and sits very nicely in the glass and has a flavour that lingers nicely. If you dig a smooth yet mildly sweet stout this will satisfy.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Muddy appearance, muddy texture, mud & metho taste. Cheap instant coffee aromas. No, really, it was pretty unenjoyable for mine, and that was after iíd had a couple. Worst Aussie stout iíve tasted.

2.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
New label, but same old beer. Not that itís bad, itís just not a great example of this type of beer. Nearly jet black with virtually no head. If you wait a few seconds, the "virtually" becomes redundant. The aroma is where itís all at with this one: roasted coffee and malt, some chocolate and a bit of earth. The flavour is disappointingly sweet and seemingly unbalanced. The palate is pretty weak, but gains a point for the roasty aftertaste. Plenty of room for this to be made into a better beer (not that Iíd know how to do it!!!)

375 ml bottle. Pitch black with a thick brown head. Massive aroma of milk chocolate, malted milk, and a bit of earthiness. Roasty, but not burnt. Nice creamy texture and awesome chocolate malt flavour. Roasty finish with some lingering bitterness.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours jet black with a thick brown head, average retention. Very smokey burnt aroma. Mouthfull is medium but flavour still reasonably full, with some nice roasty bitterness. A little metallic and dirty in the finish, but pretty solid overall, very much in line with invalid stout.
