2003 bottle from Mutant (Thanks!). Pours well enough, dark brown with some lighter magenta/red tinges. Clear, not bottle conditioned. Small light tan colored head. Aroma of sweet syrupy caramel, rich toffee and tons of sweet oats. Flavor is very oaty, chewy/syrupy and quite sweet. Like creamy oatmeal with lots of brown sugar. Hops are not terribly apparent, maybe some bitterness on the finish. Not overly complex, though, and it does get a bit sweet. Lots of milk chocolate and caramel. Yeast apparent on the finish as well. Interesting, but I’d like more bitterness and complexity.

Bottle: Pours black with a big solid tan head that lasts well. Little lacing. Aroma of bitter chocolate and coffee with a tiny bit of yeast (vegemite) and hops. Tastes great!! Very drinkable dark chocolate and black coffee although slightly grainy. Good bitterness that leaves you wanting more, however, it was somewhat thin with an astringent aftertaste. Nice beer.

Holy crap - where did this come from? I know I’ve had this before at some stage but I don’t remember it being this good.
Black as black - completely opaque. Reasonable tan head. Seemingly low carbonation on the pour and open but some fizziness in the mouth.
Amazing aroma - smooth malted milk, caramel, chocolate marshmallows, coffee with none of that graininess of a lot of stouts. Kinda like one of those stupid caramel-flavoured coffee things only in beer (and delicious).
Certainly doesn’t taste as good as it smells but is nice nonetheless. More marshmallows and a creamy yet thinnish mouthfeel with a roasty finish and not too much hop.

Dark, sweet and sour aroma, like stale coffee and fresh apple cider. medium bodied with some acidity, malty and roasted then drying out. Yep, Stout.

Dark brown small tan head, lots of roast and chocolate aroma. Good mouthfeel. Some bitterness, just about right for making you want more.

Dark brown with a small, light brown head. Nice chocolate malt and roast barley aroma, but with some harsh, burnt astringent smells also. Taste of roast barley with a hint of coffee.

A nice stout, light body, not much head, roasted malt flavours [coffee, caramel, cocoa], nice level of bitterness and pleasant aroma.

2 December 2003 New 375ml bottle: Aroma was quite metallic with not much else. Black with hints of red/brown when swished up the sides of the glass, quickly diminishing head. Flavour was sweet, mildly roasty, mildly coffee and with a gentle roasty note and hop aftertaste. Highly carbonated.
Older 345ml bottle: Aroma was a bit coffee like. Very black with brown highlights when swirled. Reasonably strong roasty notes with coffee, a hint of cocoa and strong hopy bitter aftertaste. Highly carbonated.
