COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This NW style sour is a crisp, refreshing wheat beer that was barrel-aged for seven months then additionaly aged with strawberries for another eight months. Bright, sweet strawberries and light candy notes greet you in the nose. A light tartness and berry sweetness intermingle on the palate, giving way to a light, sparkling fresh berry tartness in the finish. It is better as a breakfast beer or a dessert? You decide.

Sample at Kurtkeller 006: Cascade-tastic 01 on 02/21/2014. Pours a hazy reddish-gold color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to a film. The aroma consists of fresh strawberries and yeast. Medium-bodied with flavors of tart strawberry, oak and yeast. The finish is mildly funky with a lingering berry aftertaste. Good beer all around.

On tap at Cascade Barrel Room. A friend’s wife described this as Babie’s foot that you used to chew on when you were a kid but in a glass...given that I have no experience with that I will say that it was an artificial strawberry taste, high carbonation, light, big sour on the palate, tart and dry. A beer that was all over the place for sure.

Hazy orangeish red colored pour. Big fluffy off-white head. Tons of lacing. Nice strawberry aroma. A nutty note like strawberry seeds. A sour note. Nice tart note in the mouth right up front. A slight strawberry note. Not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Beer Revolution. Pours cloudy orange amber with a thick white head and a fermented strawberry aroma. There is a delicate strawberry flavor over a nice pale malt base. Delicious.

2012 project, bottle notes 7.1% abv; huge thanks to Brett for sharing!!!! Pours an opaque gumwood orange with minimal head but good lacing. Nose is divine, with beautiful strawberry seed, red wine vinegar, light tannin, pear, cider, sparkling rose, very light touch of balsamic, peach. Flavor is all of the same, with gorgeous complex orchard and berry fruit melding harmoniously with oaked and tannic tart bite. Spritzy, snappy, and crisp on the palate. Lovely that the acetic is toned down from a lot of the Cascade efforts that I have, almost as if they felt collaborated with Jolly Pumpkin. Superb.

3 ounce sample at The Davis Beer Shoppe. 2012 vintage. Initial aroma has light strawberry notes. These are fleeting notes. Aroma becomes funky with some cheesy character and fermented cow silage, too. Slightly hazy orange body with a medium off-yellow head. Starts with significant tartness and acidity, before some olive juice flavors come through in the middle. Finishes with more acidic tartness. Not much strawberry in this.

2011 bottle pulled from the basement for NYE... Pours a hazy orange with a definite twinge of pink... 3 finger head rises up quickly and drops back just as fast. Nose is fresh berries and strong lactic presence... light oak... smells tannic. Flavor is plenty tannic... berry is present, but lighter than I had hoped, should have opened this much sooner... lactic almost bile like flavor. Light and very bubbly... heartburn in a bottle likely... but very tasty.

Bottle 2012 project. Pour has a brown amber color with a thick one finger frothy head that had great retention for the style. Aroma has tart berry, light funk, oak, jam, and some seeds. Mouth feel is light and the carbonation is high but not out of control. Flavor has medium acidity, tart strawberry, oak, mild funk, and a dry lingering finish. The base beer is dry and oaky but I wish the strawberry had a bigger overall role.
