Pours a medium yellow/gold. Pillow of white head, thick. Musky musky yeasty scents. Reminds me of an old library book. Nice kick of bretty sourness, a little funk, but not overly funky. Sweet honey notes, green grapes, and a little old french oak. The sweet plays nice with the sour. nicely carbonated, the brett is mild and not dominating. Not too dry or acidic. A unique sour that has a very complex profile.

Bottle Pours out a cloudy golden Orange topped with a white head. Aroma of grape juice and a little spice. Tast was about the same green grapes with some tart on it. I tasted it late in the night and it was a little better that the fresh pour maybe it grows on you a little.

Hazy apricot, some spruce aroma. Gentle balance of sweet and tart fruit, still more on the tart side. More spruce in the finish. Never got any white wine grapes.

UPDATED: MAR 9, 2010 [UPDATE] Just cracked open a one year aged version of this. Just wonderful, the grapes were very fragrant in the nose, but were lost in the flavor leaving a stunning sour character.

Bottle... Poured hazy, vibrant orange with a thick white head. Sweet candies and fruits on the nose. Palate was a little dry, but not to the point as most sours [I can see that changing over time in the bottle]. It was initially sour with a little grainy and earthy notes and a lot of grape juice flavors before a tangy finish.

750ml bottle again generously shared by hophead84. Pours a hazy golden orange color with a small off white ring. Nose was very sweet with either some tart muscat or maybe Riesling grapes?? Flavor was also more sweet than sour. Like hophead said, this will probably be better in about 6 months, thanks for sharing this on man!!

Sampled some of this recently. Colour... cloudy with a peach/kumquat coloured appearance. Nose... somewhat spicy (like pie spice and white pepper), white grape skins and pips. Palate... puckeringly tart, little bit of white distilled vinegar, some wood, spice, Niagra(?) grapes, mildly sweet and a looooooong, dry finish. Yet another exquisite piece of zymugistic work from Gansberg and Bain!

750ml corked and caged bottle straight from Ron. Pours a deep dark golden that has orange and brown tints to it. Beautiful big dense off white head that settles down, but doesn’t disappear. Wonderful tart lacto nose that has hints of wood and white wine grapes. Some pink peppercorn and maybe sweet juniper hints as well. Carbonation is nice and tight right up front. Taste is tart right away...slight lacto with more on the wine characteristics. Moves into some subtle sweetness and then finishes with faint wood earthy notes and on the dry side. Such a unique masterpiece by Ron and Curtis...these guys really know what they are doing!

750, corked and baled. Man, what an absolute highlight of the winter it was to visit Raccoon Lodge, and this last bottle of The Vine is such a pleasant reminder of it. Pours a beautiful dark crystal clear orangeish amber, but looks deep brown if you’re any distance from it. Needs light behind it to really sparkle. Big, foamy, fluffy off-white head with plenty of foamy egg-white-ish lacing down the sides of the glass. The head sticks around long after you’ve started sipping. Impressive. Big spicy, woody, tart nose: the rosemary and juniper sound about right, and there’s a definite lacto kick and a definite white wine grape pucker as well. Creamy medium body. Crisp, refreshingly spicy and tart flavors, tons of earthy, peppery spice under a big wash of white wine and balsamic. Mild tart finish. Awesome, awesome beer.

Handbottle shared by WeeHeavySD at J&J’s Friday the 13th Tasting. Thanks! Nice orange color with a funky nose of juniper, floral rosemary spice and a light sourness. Flavor is mostly tart white grapes with more spices of ginger, light wood and a grassy undertone. Tart sourness is conservative, but well-balanced on the finish with the vinous flavor. Pretty damn good. Thanks again Jon for sharing this one.

5th rating on RB for this beer. Thanks WeeHeavySD for this rarity. Yeasty LIGHTLY sour nose. Sweet Tarts or Smartees came to mind. Light orange/amber color with a fluffy white head. Sweet and deep in the mouth. Not a sharp tart flavor. Pulls the saliva from my mouth. Tastes lightly of a white wine. Nice.
