3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 madmitch76 (6193) - , Essex, ENGLAND - SEP 27, 2010
23rd September 2010. Bottle shared with Mes&Sim. Cloudy amber beer. No real head. Light funky nose. Crisp dry palate. Lightly sour and tart, turns soft in the mouth. Light worcester sauce sourness with a follow through of something sweeter - I guess the grape but I found it elusive. Does have winey aftertaste though! Nice drinkable sour, if only all sours were as drinkable!

GABF 2009. Pours sparkling light yellow with an average, frothy off-white head, mostly lasting with good lacing. Aroma is average malt (straw, grain, meal), light hop (grass), average yeast (earth, musty) with notes of pear, honey, and pepper. Medium bodied, mineral texture, lively carbonation, and a sour finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and sourness.

750 cc from Capone’s, and CAH. Pours turbid canary toward orange with minimal white head and heavy champagny carbonation. Pours yeasty spicy, very fruity, with grapey notes, hops, citrus, and a great complexity. Tastes champagney, oaky, earthy, with heavy charonnay influences, and a finishing tartness, A lot of fruit here, chardonnay, tartness, and oaky notes, all integrated extremely well. This one is a true highlight of 2010 so far, and is absolutely incredible.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 jerc (5588) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 6, 2011
2011-03-04. Hazy golden body with a small beige head that fades. 3+ Musty, dusty malt aroma, odd floral notes, vaguely perfumey note does not linger, muted oak and fruit. 7+ Flavour has a modest tartness and sourness to it throughout, the sourness is assertive up from but relatively mild overall. Notes of what I initially describe as tropical fruit and acetone might really be my interpretation of the grape juice. Interesting notes of something I can not quite place. Mild oak and white wine like fruit character add an interesting twist to the rest of the beer. It adds an intriguing depth and nuance to it but I am undecided as to whether or not I like the overall effect. Oak grows more prominent in the finish as you work your way through the glass. Smooth average palate is a bit under carbonated for my preference. Very unique. I quite enjoyed this but I think I would need at least two more samples to truly wrap my head around it. Bottle from the brewery, Portland

750 ml bottle courtesy of Ken at Über in Seattle. Reportedly only two cases made. Concord grape juice added prior to fermentation, with brettomyces, in the style of Cantillon Vigneronne. Dark and cloudy maroon with medium white head. Aroma of raisins. Full bodied. Sour throughout, with fruit in the background. A winner.

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2009 Thanks to Tertons for sharing! Pours a medium amber with a thin white head. Aroma is a green spearmint bubblegum phenolic, leafy green, light toasted malts and a light citrusy and fruity tartness. Flavor has more spearmint- gets a bit medicinal and mouthwash like- prickly and tart- earthy herbal and grass, with some tea-berry and licorice notes as it warms. Astringent and tart- with a grapeskin tartaric acid lacing the front edge of the tongue. Kinda messy all around.
