Wood aged Pale Quadruppel. Imagine a blend of Scaldis and Cantillon Pure Kriek. Forget it, there is nothing like it (yet). Vlad is shocking to your sour beer senses and taste buds, which do not understand that such a balanced delicate sour beer can be so drinkable and appeal to so many people while being extreme. But donít forget, it will still open a can of 10.6% whoop-ass on your ass after all the pomp & circumstance of what an amazing beer it is subsides.

I like this one but didnít quite live up the the reputation. From the wild ales Iíve had it doesnít seem that they need to be this high in abv. As such, it was a little heavier and sweeter than the best wilds iíve had. Pours cloudy yellow with a lot of carbonation. Funky, a little bourbon, and sweet white fruit (think apricot). dry finish

Bottle share. Pour is hazy orange with a small frothy head. Aroma is of cherries, lemon peel, vanilla, roasted marshmallow, bourbon, and tartness. Flavor is on the sweet side with vanilla, oak, and slight booze in the foreground. Also has notes of citrus peel and white wine in the finish. Great beer!

Bottle pour into a tulip during #bottlecherwednesdays at Beachwood BBQ. Hazy yellow-orange in color with a thin white head that settles quickly. Aroma is sour, tart, oaky, apple cider vinegar, unripe orchard fruit especially apple, and grape skin. Flavor starts with moderate woody tartness followed by apple cider sweetness, thereís some acid on the finish. Light bodied, thin in texture, high carbonation, dry finish.

Vintage í09 A: Pours a dark apricot ale with excellent clarity. Single finger of loosely packed off-white head falls quickly to a thin, broken sheet of the same. Little lacing. S: Crisp apples, berries. The bourbon is quite evident on this one. Much more so than I had anticipate. Sour vinegar on the nose. Really nice. T: Like sour cola, bourbon. Woody. The beer is very complex. M: Medium to light body with low carbonation. O: Very good beer. I enjoyed this very much and plan to open another soon. Serving type: bottle 04-25-2011

Vinous aroma with oak and some vanilla. Some fruity esters that I can't nail down, maybe from the wood aging or wine barrels. Definitely can smell the bourbon barrel in the aroma, but it is faint and pleasant. Taste is awesome. Vinous of maybe 6 or 7. Not overpowering. Very balanced. Get the oak flavors and vanilla of the bourbon and some slight sweet that tastes a bit of grape. Possibly from the wine barrels? Slight bitter in the middle and then finishes slight sweet. So much going on with this beer and not one flavor dominates. Great balance. Slightly low carbonation, but very minor. Awesome beer!!! On the verge of a 5. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Shared with friends last July. Pours copper-apricot with small head and lace. Aroma of flowers, sour apricot, barnyard. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of funky sour fruit rind, sour persimmon fruit, and some sweet fruit. Overall super flavorful and funky, sweet and barnyard.

My Bottom Line:
Apples and peaches pierce this brewís rising madeira, leading to elegant tartness and delicate sugar-y bread notes.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam tops the misty blond.
-This is one of the most dessert-like brews Iíve had from Cascade.
-The comfortable carbonation and moderate acidity levels make this quite drinkable despite its heft.
-The quite apparent oxidation makes me think this brew should not be aged too long. 4 years werenít that kind to the flavor profile.

4-year-old bottle.

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours amber/copper with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of wine, oak, some light sour and tart notes, a good amount of caramel and darker malts, and a little spiciness. Flavor the same with a decent blend but as sour as I would like. Average texture. A pretty good beer, but could be more sour.

Bottle 2011 project poured an orange amber color with a coating of white foam that fell back to a ring on the glass. Aroma has yeasty funk, barrel wood, sour pit fruit, orange, bourbon sweetness, and mild acidity. Mouth feel is light for such a strong beer and the carbonation plenty strong. Flavor has a nice sour fruit side, orange, sweet bourbon, oak, sour blond, mild acidity, and some wine barrel into the finish. This has a great range of flavors and the alcohol does not become too much like I had feared. This is like the barley wine of sour beers. Interesting and takes a different path.

A: Orangish/Amber Hue, Passes Some Light, White Head Ring, Decent Lacing S: Fruity, Vanilla, Bourbon, Candied Orange Peels T: Cherries, Apple, Bourbon, Red Wine Barrel M: Decent Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Tart, Mildly Drying Overall, a really special blend between the bourbon barrel and the red wine barrel, but neither taste blend into each other, then there is the fruit flavors...outstanding.
