COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed to coincide with Germany's famous fall celebration, our Casco Bay Oktoberfest is a truly authentic UR-MARZEN. We use a special Munich lager yeast, liberal doses of Munich and caramel malts and noble hops to produce this smooth, balanced and imminently drinkable beer in the great German tradition. PROST!

Pours a hazy golden brown with a thick, big bubble, long lasting head. The nose is a metallic, malty foreground with hints of sweetness and somewhat hoppy. Relatively high carbonation for the style with a medium body. The overall metallic taste is a bit of a distraction. The malt is nice, along with the hint of sweetness. The hops seem out of place for this style too. It would be better if they were toned down just a bit. Not bad, but not something you can have a lot of at once.

Dark orange body with vey thin light tan head. Light scent, mostly of malt. Tasty but not as full flavored as some. Malty (somewhat roasty?) with light hop notes. Light medium body. A good Oktoberfest, but I’ve had better, I’m affraid.

Thanks to Woody_Obeer for this... Appears an amber with a small offwhite head and scattered lacing. Smell is of sourdough overkill with some sweet malt trying hard to come through. Taste is of the same aromas. Mouthfeel is slightly weak. Drinkability is that of a average brew but a below average O-fest...just my opinion.

12oz bottle shared courtesy of WOODY_OBEER (just so happens that this is also my 1,800th rating on Ratebeer). Poureda medium amber color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas of toffee and bread. Tastes of toffee, bread, and caramel. Thinner body.

Thanks to WOODY_OBEER. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber with a small white lightly lacing head. Aroma of caramel, light fruits and more hops than I expected although overall a light aroma. Flavor was slight sweet and watery.

Bottle from Downeast, Portland Maine. Amber coppr body, moderate beig head. Toasty malt aroma is dominated by a surprising amount of alcohol presence. Dry toasty malt and alcohol also dominate the the flavour with a rough lingering aftertaste. Average palate. Not entirely pleasant. Draft sample at the brewers festival seemed better but my palate was shot by that time so I wasn’t taking notes anymore.

This is the best I’ve had from Casco yet! Very good october beer, smooth, hoppy, malty, and just well balanced. I now have an alternate favorite to Gritty’s haloween. :)

Pours a medium copper, with moderate carbonation, and a small dissipating head. Lots of Saaz on the nose, very true to style. Taste has some good caramunich notes, but in my opinion, slightly overhopped for the style. Sweetness is just a touch too subdued. Finish is some light maltiness with a distinct saaz hoppiness. Very tasty, but just a bit out of balance for the style.

DocLock (7832) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 13, 2005
Bottle from Ortino’s Northside. Pours heavy deep copper colored, with medium off-white head. Aroma of heavy grainy malt, fruit, corn flakes, some cabernet notes. The flavor was malty, with a dense palate and hints of grainy malt, nuts, brown sugar, and cabernet. Decent complexity. A very nice marzen.

(Bottle, best by 12/7/05) Rich looking, deep amber body, nice biscuit head, good head retention, but poor lacing. Aroma mildly sweet, bready. Mouthfeel good, smooth, touch of bitter at start, smooth finish. Tastes nice, smooth, mildly malty. Nice marzen.
